This really has nothing to do with Lyme disease, but since everyone here is so smart, I though I'd ask anyway.

My 11 yr old cousin has prader willi syndrome. He has had horrible, horrible colitis for a few yrs now and now it's bloody diarrhea every day, all day sometimes. He's losing so much weight nobody knows what to do anymore.

I guess the doctor wants to remove part of his colon and leave him with a bag. My Aunt has tried everything, and will try anything new.

Not sure of all the specific's of what she's tried, but I would love any ideas of what anybody thinks would help. I will send her this link.

Thank you so much for any help!!

Has anybody tried antibiotics?

There are doctor's out there using antibiotics for inflammatory bowel so you could do a google search.

Other people are looking at fecal transplants for colon disease.

Check out the work of Dr. Barody in Australia on fecal transplants.

UC may have more to do with Lyme than you realize...often, Lyme (and/or coinfection)-induced inflammation in the gut is misdiagnosed as Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's.

I have posted about this topic on IBD support forums because I was incorrectly diagnosed with Crohn's when I was a teenager. But the treatments for Crohn's always made me sicker (except antibiotics).

And then in 2007, I found out why I didn't respond so well to the immune-suppressing treatments for Crohn's - I actually have Lyme in my gut causing dysmotility and inflammation.

See the following links:

Crohn's, Colitis, and Lyme Disease
http://www.canlyme.com/crohn's.html

What does Lyme Disease [have] to do with Digestion?
http://www.revolutionhealth.com/blogs/trentnicholsmd/what-does-lyme-diseas-4297

The ABC's of Lyme Disease, page 2, "Gastrointestinal Lyme"
http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org/ABCsLYME.pdf

And a book I read, called "The Homeopathic Treatment of Lyme Disease" (by Peter Alex, Edited by Doug Smith), also says that Lyme Disease can mimic Crohn's Disease.

Known Gastrointestinal symptoms of Lyme Disease include swallowing difficulties, gastroparesis, constipation, diarrhea, blood in stool, heartburn, acid reflux/GERD, ulcers, abdominal pain, loss of appatite or always feeling hungry, weight loss or weight gain, etc.

Lyme also causes a lot of other symptoms, including joint pain & inflammation, fatigue, low-grade fevers, etc., that can make it hard to distinguish from Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

For more info on how Lyme/coinfections can affect the GI tract, see "'Bell's Palsy of the Gut' and other Gastrointestinal Manfiestations of Lyme and Associated Diseases" http://thehumansideoflyme.net/viewarticle.php?aid=62

PLEASE look into the possibilty that he may have parasites. Check out the symptom list at Humaworm.

www.humaworm.com

Parasites/worms are reported to infect over 90% of the population and are really overlooked by mainstream medicine. We treat our pets for worms, but not ourselves. It used to be common practice 50-100 yrs ago.

Hope this helps.

Look into Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides (AMP).

http://ampfloracel.com/

http://www.digestinol.com/index.php

.
I looked up Prader-Willi syndrome.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002572/

One of the complications is right sided heart failure.
CoEnzyme Q10 may help that.

Aloe will make UC worse. I've seen it over and over on these IBD forums.

Razzle, AMP isn't like drinking aloe juice.

It's a concentration of the effective elements in the aloe.

C diff?

Epstein barr virus?

Anal tear or hemorroid?

Bloody diarrhea can be caused by bacterial infection, such as H. pylori.

HBOT has been used for colitis.

Seems like the cause needs to be determined.
