We have mold in our air conditioning unit, likely it will be replaced and that closet it is in cleaned up before the new one put in.
But, what to do about the ducts which have had air passing through them that likely has some mold and dust on it? Is there some particular way we should ask someone to clean them?

Michael, I went through this a little over a year ago and was out of my house for three plus months.
The ducks had visible mold on the outside of them and I imagine on the inside of them as I was not able to shake Lyme at that time and my throat always felt tight.
If you are going to go the cleaning route, don't let just anyone do it because they can put holes in the duct work and then you get mold again. If your duct work is very old, I would recommend replacing it. My insurance company covered 10000 of this. I was stuck with the other 10.
I feel a TON better and looking back, I had no choice. Mold symptoms often are very similar to Lyme and certainly keep your immune system suppressed.

They do have a service (somewhat common)
That will use a special powerful vacuum at one end and clean them out of dust or other debris. It is not mold specific. Couple hundred dollars, I think.

willbeatthis -- Our ducts are less than a year old and are the metal type, so they should be solid and we were told much easier to clean than other types.
surprise -- I have heard of that, I don't have any idea if that is sufficient, of if I need them to go in there with some kind of chemical somehow to really get the mold out.

You are super lucky Michael with regard to your ducts being new. There should be plenty of the things on the market that they could hit the mold with. Mine were the old kind...
