I've been having a lot of what I think is gallbladder pain lately. I have ann appt. Fri. to discuss with doctor.

I realize I may be jumping the gun a little but if it comes to surgery, will they run tests on the gallbladder to see if it's infected with anything?

And if so, does the doctor need to specify what infections to test for or do they automatically test for everything?

I've been looking into this too. Looking for explanations as to why my liver enzymes go up despite trying EVERYTHING to lower them. The glutathiones not even working on them anymore.

I am looking forward to the responses of others.

I hope that your gallbladder is okay and that you don't need surgery. I know someone at a local support group who is having hers out this month. She's been treating with a very well-known LLMD who does mainly herbs. She feels she's completely cured and is only taking a small dose of samento now.

She's been on that for years at the low dose and just developed the gallbladder issue. It makes me wonder if it's the treatment or the infection that causes the issue.

I went back and forth making a decision on whether to take it out or not, and I ended up having emergency surgery.

Summer3-When I got mine out, I didn't have relief from high liver enzymes. Hopefully yours will be different.

Have you guys had any vomiting?

Gallbladder trouble can indeed make the liver enzymes go high, and the pancreatic enzymes, too. But as Life+Lyme said, that's not always the cause.

Often, you can get rid of gallbladder problems with Liver/Gallbladder Flushes over time. But not always.

ANd, yes, it seems that the infections can often be the cause, just as it can be from rocephin. Dr. B said that he thought it was particularly from Bb, as when they tested many gallbladders of Lymies, they all tested +.

If you do have it out, ask both the pathology lab to do tests on it for LD, and also have your LLMD rx a test for Lyme and co-infections be done by Igenex or one of the other Lyme labs. I did that. The surgeon provided the sample, and I sent it to the lab (don't have that result yet).

Daughter had to have hers removed. She never took Rocephin. She had alot of pain.

Liver enzymes were still high, so they cleaned the bile ducts and they went down.

The surgeon said her gallbladder was inflamed and diseased.

Good luck

Summer, Do you have gallbladder pain? Sorry to hear your enzymes are back up.

LifeLime, Maybe your ducts need to be cleaned out like Jane's daughter?

Rumigirl, I read that flushes can possibly be dangerous if it causes a large stone to get stuck. How long ago did you have yours out? I think I'd want mine tested for Lyme and Co's as well as EBV, Cpn, Myco, H. Pylori, maybe yeast? Can't imagine what that would cost though.

Jane, Did they test to see what it was infected with? So she had to go in for a separate procedure to have the ducts cleaned? Another laproscopic or something else? I don't know why they don't just automatically do that...unless it's more involved and not usually necessary.

Also, what type of sedation is used for gallbladder surgery? General? I'm scared of surgery/sedation with my dysautonomia. I feel like my body would go haywire. I've had issues even with what they use for endoscopy/colonoscopy.

No, they did not test. I was so upset and worried I did not think to ask. [Frown]

Yes, two days later the second procedure was done.

I can understand that Jane. Glad her enzymes are down now. How long ago did she have the surgery? Have any of her symptoms improved since? What was used for anesthesia? Did she tolerate that ok?

I'm having a lot of pain on my right side today. I don't know if it is gallbladder, liver or just rib/bone pain.

I severely overdid it with very strenuous exercise yesterday at work. Plus I have to do another liver test that I'm debating whether to get on Thursday or Friday. I don't know if I should try to get it so the results come back before the weekend in case it's really high again. On the other hand, the longer I wait away from exercise and off the med I was previously on the more likely it is to go down I think. I don't want it to be high from the exercise I did and then I'm taken off meds AGAIN.

How can you tell that it's your gallbladder hurting you? What does it feel like?

Mine is on rt. side directly under the ribs and radiates to back. I looked it up and that's how I determined it could be gallbladder. Sounds like it could be with you too.

Do you get this often? I do. Especially after eating and in the P.M. which I guess is also telltale. Have you mentioned the pain to your doctor?

I had no problems with enzymes - liver - gallbladder, nothing. Until I took IV Rocephin.

Within months, I had two horrible ER attacks. I had to have surgery and glad I did. The pain with the gallbladder is worse than anything. You can't breath through the pain, you can't move to any position to get relief. If your gallbladder is bad, its painful beyond belief! You won't have to guess where the pain is coming from. (radiates to the back, like a knife is in there)

Ultrasounds showed that I had sludging of the gallbladder. A month before with an ultrasound, the gallbladder was clean. I had a major LLMD from the east coast treat me at that time. Nothing was done to prevent this from happening.

All has been good since having it out. All my numbers are great, even with being on abx, malarone, diflucan. I do not supplement or eat any differenly.

Mine is not intensely bad. It's more like a side stitch that you would get from running or something. It's near the bottom of my ribcage on my right side. It's pretty often. Sometimes I have to lie on it or it hurts to breathe.

I have only told my doctor that I'm having rib pain. I don't know how else to describe it. I don't want to elaborate with him at this point. He over-reacts to things sometimes, and it's probably not serious although I'm going to have to figure out what's going on with my liver soon.

If you want them to test the tissue for Lyme, you have to line that up ahead of time. Most GB pain is from a dysfunctional GB or from stones/sludge.

They can do a HIDA scan for lack of function and ultrasound to check for stones.

Had an ultrasound a few mos. ago b/c of elevated bilirubin and no stones. Can't rememeber though if it showed sludge or not. Like someone above said though, sludge can turn to stones very quickly.
