I have been half treating bartonella with

Bactrim
Zithro
Plaquenil
Malarone
tini

My LLMD wants me to start rifampin and take away the malarone

What are your experiences with it? did it make you feel horrible? did it make you have worse anxiety?

How long did the horribleness last? any info would be appreciated

Rifampin rocked for me. I did it with doxy. It was the turning point for me (felt much better after that).

That's a lot for HALF treating,,,,any way rifampin affects so many other drugs .

check a drug interaction list..

Like it makes a valium at half it's worth in body and lowers strenght of some ABX"S and other thing's ..

so you adjust amounts

I have to order the 150 orange only capsules from sandoz...

have pharmacy call around to get it ..
to one start lower and two I couldn't take the other fillers in the red pills

Rifampin wokred great for me. It interferes with Armour Thyroid though, so I had to stop taking it.

Matt, four months. I could tell within a few hours that this was the drug for me. Maybe it was the combo with doxy though. I felt REALLY good within two days. Then I just sort of plateaued after 3 mos.

My doc did ad zyth for 30 days after one month on the doxy/rifampin. Adding the zyth made me dizzy for a couple of weeks, but went away. Other than that, no problems for me with this med.

Best to all of you.

This might be too late to matter--but I just saw this question. Rifampin has been extremely powerful and helpful for me. HOWEVER, the first time I took 150 mg, I had a HUGE herx reaction. I decided instead to ramp up (very very) slowly.

I got the liquid form of Rifampin and started at 25 mg twice a day and would ramp up every 4 or 5 days with 25 mg more. I would often herx and then stay at that dose until the herx stopped. Then ramp up more.

It took me over a year to get up to 300 mg twice a day but it has been worth it. I never stopped working so I needed to be patient since my herx reactions were so bad.
