I have heard DGL helps. Works best taken 20 minutes before meals containing citrus, tomato, onion/garlic, spices, caffeine (chocolate, coffee, tea), high fat content/fried foods.
Acid Soothe (by Enzymedica) taken as needed for symptom relief also is very helpful for me.

Or, it can be just plain reflux, independent of Lyme & co infections. Interestingly, it's common in athletes.

Might be BART Lyme or just a loose sphincter.
I take the medication "Dexilant" and also George's Aloe Vera Juice.
I am being treated for Bart. I hope that it helps the acid reflux. I don't want the reflux for life.

Could be bart. I had acid reflux and bart. I took (and still take) Prilosec, but then again I also have a slight hiatal hernia.
The good thing is that, according to Dr. B, prilosec taken along with abxs can help with LD so you get a bonus benefit of addressing acid reflux and LD with the same drug.

While you guys are arguing about what is causing the reflux, why don't you try the d-limonene and get some relief.
People who have reviewed this have said that they were able to stop taking Prilosec and other meds.
Medications that reduce stomach acid are so harmful. Low stomach acid means that food won't be broken down into molecules, and will not be able to digest properly.
You will also end up being deficient in Vitamin B12, as the constituents for it are broken apart in the stomach via stomach acid, and then put back together again by bacteria at the end of the small intestines.

Didn't know about d-limonene. I will look it up. Mine is pretty severe, but would like something natural. The medication I use is very strong and still didn't do enough, so I added Aloe Vera Juice, which helped quite a bit.

For those of you who had success with aloe vera juice--how much do you take and how often?
I've had several middle of the night reflux episodes, the worst being last night when I woke up choking on a large amount of stomach contents all the way up in my throat. Ugh! Don't want to experience that again!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't meassure it. i just pour a little in a small glass and drink it three or four times per day. George's Aloe Vera Juice. The other brands contain citric acid which can cause acid reflux.

Thanks Rivendell. I didn't think about citric acid. Checking the bottle I bought today I see it does contain it as a 'ph stabilizer.' I'll exchange it for George's if I can find it. Thanks again!

does anyone know how this helps???what is actually going on?
those of you with reflux at night must know about not eating close to time you go to bed right?
also...at one time i raised the top part of my bed sort of permanrntly---i kept it up a long time---i put my riding boots in their box under my pillow place.
now i am mostly ok-but if i get messed up from traveling or something and get reflux in the middle of the night i sleep in recliner after taking whatever i can..6 almonds oftern work or 1/2 and apple

I recently started seeing a chiro that treats spasms in the diaphragm, which can cause heartburn, as well as anxiety/heart palpitations.
One of my first symptoms was burning/ pain under my right ribs, which I now think was a spasm in my diaphragm. I have many problems with my tendons, and the diaphragm is made up of a large tendon, with vital structures passing through it. Any spasms squeeze on these structures, as is the case when it causes acid reflux.
I have lyme and fl1953. Never tested positive to bart or babs.

My LLMD thought my heartburn might be esophageal spasms. I had that burning under the ribs...both sides.
I was Rxd Levsin and it really seemed to help.
I think Lyme and parasite treatment both helped.

i have so many co-infections, im not sure which one is to blame for my acid reflux.
basically, i avoid anything citrus... especially pineapple, which makes me feel like i am literally having a heart attack.
when my acid reflux flares, i have a really hard time taking my "excedrine" ...
laying down after taking all the pills we take is another thing to irritate acid reflux.
if you can stay vertical for a few hours after taking all your meds, it definitely helps...
