Our liquid azith has red dye in it. [Mad]

I don't like to give artificial colors on principle anyway, but last summer, one child needed a lot of medicine that has red dye in it, and she developed a rash (possibly coincidence, but...)

Both children have been on azith for a week and have developed rashes. Could be a herx, but could be the drugs.

CVS says we need to go to a compounding pharmacy. This will mean a fight with our insurance company, as they do not cover compounding pharmacies.

Any ideas?

Just an idea.........

My 4 years old is under treatment right now and she is starting Rifampin pretty soon. I just went to our local compounding pharmacy and they told me it was going to cost $150 a month for her Rifampin because they don't take insurance either. The compounding pharmacist recommeded I get the Rifampin filled at my regular pharmacy in pill form so that my insurance would cover it.

Of course, I had to call my LLMD to do this.

Once I picked up the pills at the pharmacy I took them to the compound pharmacy and they charged me $20 to mix cherry syrup with the pills.

Maybe you can try and do something like this.

Just thought I would share!!!

Couldn't we mix the cherry syrup ourselves? I go to a compounding pharmacy to get Rifampin in liquid form for my kid. It's $50. It would be $15 if she would take a pill (and save me the long drive, long wait, etc).

Curious if anyone else mixes this at home?

Rather than a cherry syrup that may have additives and artificial dyes, sweeteners, or corn syrup, etc. Even some "natural flavors" can contain MSG . . .

What about using REAL organic cherry juice or Black Elderberry extract, glycerine base, not alcohol?

Papaya Juice just popped into my mind.

Maybe some other liquid, coconut or a nut oil, etc?

Just mixing it into food like an avocado?

Seems like you should be able to mix this yourself. Of course, there are some questions and a LLMD or LL ND (naturopathic doctor) should be able to guide you.

Two basic questions:

If a plant/fruit juice/syrup is used would the antioxidant nature of that have any interaction with the Rx absorption? For better or worse?

Would each dose need to mixed on the spot, or how much could be mixed and stored for how long? Fridge required?

And - [I forget but I had one other question that seemed important a minute ago.]

If you do mix it for keeping, you might want to buy sterilized bottles such as:

Garden,

the rash could be from liver stress. Be sure her liver support is well rounded and there's good water intake.

When the liver &/or kidneys get overwhelmed, it can show up in the skin as the skin is also a major organ of detoxification.

As zith can be hard on the ears, liver support also offers a certain degree of support for the ears, too, by helping the liver to move out toxins easier.

Keebler,

We used to give them milk thistle (when on diflucan).

Dr J told us neither of these meds were hard on the liver.

Also, my husband was told that milk thistle would interfere with his azith/mepron/diflucan protocol. he is taking dandelion.

Any liver support suggestions (by the way, we had just restarted topical l-glutathione, and I probably should have started with a smaller dose, so that might be it).
