Doctor has recommended a product by Ortho Molecular called AdreneVive that has Ashwaganda Root, Skullcap, Siberian Ginseng Rhodiola, L-theanine, and Phosphatidlserine. I always thought ginseng was stimulative. Has anyone used this or have comments including what time of day taken.

Thanks

You are correct, some of the types of ginseng can be too stimulating for those with adrenals issues and lyme.

SIBERIAN Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) is not a true ginseng, though. It helps balance the adrenal system and is considered an "adaptogen"

RHODIOLA, though also an excellent and important "adaptogen" and used to nourish and balance the adrenals and whole HPA axis, well, THAT can be mighty stimulating to many with lyme.

Still, looking at what else is there to balance it, all may be fine.

According to Tillotson, Skullcap in a capsule will have little effect at calming.

It has to be tincture for that element to work. But, for day-time use, the powdered Skullcap may have just the right effect at calming without knocking you out (as the tincture can do).

I assume this supplement is one you would take 2-3 times a day, not just prior to bedtime. This looks like it will nourish the body so that sleep can happen when it's time, but not PUT you to sleep.

It looks like an excellent formula but, with above concerns, you might want to start with a low dose, earlier in the evening but when you are winding down.

Basically, everything they say seems true (from what I know with a lay-person's understanding).

A serving size is 2 capsules but I could not see the suggesting timing of this, I assume maybe twice a day?

It seems excellent . . . still I'd start with just ONE capsule a day until you see how it works for you.

Adrene-Vive

Serving size: 2 capsules

During times of acute stress, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis is over-stimulated and needs help re-balancing. The over-production of cortisol and other stress hormones is typical for individuals with HPA axis overload.

AdreneVive is formulated to help respond to HPA axis overload by reducing cortisol levels and limiting the negative impact of acute adrenal stress.

The Wilson book here (thought not at all about lyme) is excellent and discusses all those ingredients:
