The other day at work, I severely overdid it. I had to do a lot of strenuous exercise (walking nearly 8 miles uphill in hot weather pushing a lot of weight).

I have been having liver enzyme issues. I am off absolutely everything including all supplements, meds and herbs. The only thing that I was allowed to take since last Friday was 100mg of doxy 2x per day. I have taken this a long time ago and just restarted it last Friday. The previous week, I was taking Biaxin. I had to stop that because my liver enzymes were climbing.

Today I'm having a lot of pain on my right side. Similar to when my enzymes were at their highest a couple months ago. I'm a little concerned, although my ALT has never gotten above 130 my AST stays under 80 so I'm not sure how dangerous that really is for people with Lyme and on meds. I need to do a liver test before my LLMD appointment next week. Here is my dilemma:

I can go either tomorrow or the next day. If I go tomorrow, my liver enzymes are likely to be high because of the exercise and also it hasn't had as much time to drop from the last abnormal test which was 8 days ago. However, if my enzymes are dangerously high, the results will be in by Friday and something can be done before permanent damage happens.

If I wait until Friday to test it, I might have a better chance of them not being so high, but nobody will see the results until next week. So I'll be going all weekend continuing to take the meds.

Right now, we don't know what's raising them. There was suspicion that it was the meds. Doxy has the capability of raising them, so I'm concerned that they will be up. My LLMD is really cautious, and even when they are less than 2x the upper limit of normal, my meds are stopped. Stopping frequently is against what I want to do. I worry when I'm off them my symptoms, especially neuro ones become very severe.

Aggressive detox does not lower them. In fact, they go higher so this is why I was advised to stop EVERYTHING this week.

So I guess my question is, when should I do the test? Should I go tomorrow since I have a feeling something might be wrong (I'll find out the results Friday if it's bad) or should I wait an extra day and hope that they aren't too high (I'd get results Monday).

Thank you for any advice.

Here's a question: If results are not good, wouldn't the doctor be notified regardless of whether or not it's the weekend? I thought so but I could be wrong.

Also, what the heck do you do for work?!!!

If it were me, and I was having a lot of pain, I'd go NOW. But that's just me. I can't tell you what to do. Only remind you that you know your symptoms best... And if it quacks like a duck...

That particular day, I was watching several children and they needed to be out of the house the entire day. Their parents had suggested walking to the park. I wasn't familiar with exactly where it was. I don't think the family realized how far it was. It seems much shorter and not as steep when you're driving lol.

I don't think I would be notified because the office isn't open on the weekend. The results are always faxed in. They get there the next business day early in the morning. So if I went on Friday, even if they would come in on Saturday morning, there wouldn't be anyone there to receive them.

It's not severe pain, but it's enough that it's noticeable and similar to when they've been up in the past. Although a few times, I've had this type of pain and it hasn't been so high.

I don't think my numbers are dangerously high, but my LLMD always scares me because he takes even minor elevations VERY seriously and says somethings harming my liver and it's dangerous etc.

I don't have any experience with other LLMD's so I'm never sure if he's being overly cautious. I go back and forth between wanting to get things down on my own and wait it out so I don't have to stop treatment, and worrying that he's correct and it really is more dangerous than I think.

I don't have any other risk factors lifestyle-wise. No prior health problems, I eat healthily, I'm not overweight, I NEVER drink and I never take tylenol products.

Take care of your liver. I have nearly lost a family member due to liver disease, and I have had hepatitis myself (likely Lyme before I knew what it was).

Even if your numbers went up due to exertion, if the medicine is also increasing your numbers, you need to get on it right away.

Take care.
