I went to a holistic MD yesterday who has some Lyme patients, but it is not her specialty. She believes that I have a toxic liver due to the symptoms below:

nausea throughout the day but much worse after dinner

awakening at 2 or 3 a.m. on most nights with difficulty getting back to sleep

cold hands and feet with little perspiration

general malaise

vibrating feeling in head and extremities

My thyroid testing is okay. She wants me to go on a liver detox diet which is essentially gluten and dairy free with no caffeine.

I have not been nauseous until recently when I took full dose of rifampin at 300 mg 2 x day and doxy 100 mg 3 x day. I always take with meals, but am steel feeling pretty sick, especially later in the day.

I tested positive for rocky mountain spotted fever and anaplasmosis so my LLND feels I need these 2 meds. She has been pushing rocephin thru IV Picc line.

I know that many of you have tried the gluten free diet. I find it hard to believe that I could have a leaky gut, but I guess this is what the ABX does to you! It ruins your insides!

It is making me consider IV ABX. Could I take rocephin as well as doxy and rifampin all through IV Picc line?

Have any of you switched to IV ABX and felt better?

My liver enzymes were slightly elevated and my mercury was found to be high. What I don't understand is if there is a relationship between leaky gut and a toxic liver.

Holistic MD has recommended a special diet for liver toxicity that involves cutting out gluten, dairy, caffeine... almost identical to Lyme diet. You also take a powdered nutritional drink daily for one month and gradually introduce foods back into your diet to see if you have any reactions.

I think I am nauseous because of the full dose of rifampin with doxy. Not sure if I have a 'leaky gut' problem.

I would like to hear from those of you who have been told they have leaky gut and learn more about this.

I was told I did and I definitely think that was true... I was allergic to MANY MANY foods. I am confident the abx are what got me to LEAKY gut. They ate at my stomach for sure...

Have you tried coffee enemas for your liver... I think they may have saved mine. I have been on Dr. H's protocol of as many as 4 intracellular drugs at a time.

I then was put on a diet buy my holistic chiro here called the THE GAPS DIET (out of England) Gapsdiet.com and I think my gut is finally good now. My immune system took a real turn for the better with that and then about two weeks ago I started taking Juice Plus at double the normal dose due to Lyme (someone advised me)and I have had more energy and stamina than before I was sick. Simply amazing. Nutrition is key to healing I believe and with the immune system residing primarily in the gut... well, it makes sense. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

All of my symptoms - physical and mental - have improved since I started addressing leaky gut. I follow the paleo diet.

I highly recommend Robb Wolf's website for more info on the paleo diet. I particularly like the testimonials section where you can find stories by people who have recovered from similar conditions. Click on "testimonials" then look on the right side of the page for conditions.
