My LLMD tells me that I am the only patient with a recurring rash
I've been treating 2 years. A couple months ago, the rash appeared again, which is about the third time I think.
I have one, slightly raised elongated 3 inch circle on the inside of my elbow, near where blood would be drawn.
I have two circles next to each other on the outside of my knee, each about 3 inches perfect circles.
No itching. I would not even know they were there if I didn't see them.
It's depressing to be the only patient with this.
I know I need to make an appointment with a good dermologist and I will.
COULD THIS BE SOMETHING OTHER THAN A LYME RASH?? Anyone?!
The exact rash began in 2003 on the other leg in the exact same area. It comes and goes ever since then. My primary doctor treated me with doxy in 2005 for 2 months.
The rash has appeared and when it leaves, the skin is like CHICKEN SKIN and never improves.
My skin has aged tremendously the last couple of years. I just started taking alpha lipioc acid. Are there any other supplements to help the skin look better.
I have used coconut oil for a couple years but it doesn't help.
Thanks, LAXlover
PS It's been a long time since visiting this site. I needed a break as I because depressed after my daughter was also diagnosed with Lyme. I hope everyone has been improving since I've been MIA.

- Yes, it could be something OTHER than a lyme rash and that's important to consider.
If possible, would see ONLY an ILADS-educated LL dermatologist, though. Even if something other than lyme, if they are not LL, they would not have the knowledge base needed for a proper assessment.
LIVER stress can cause all kinds of rashes.
PARASITES, too, are possible and can affect the skin.
A LL ND (naturopathic doctor) may be able to help, too, especially since this could point to liver stress.
But it also very well could be lyme satellite rashes.
I've had recurring rashes, too. It can certainly happen. It's not all that rare but but especially common, either.
Between 8 - 13 in the same places (satellite rashes), several different times when starting doxycycline (which I could not continue).

GOTU KOLA capsules
You can search the web and PubMed for that. It's very helpful at helping the body clear out poisons.

I happen to have some calendula cream so I will try now and see what happens!
Never heard of GOTU KOLA capsules but I will try also.
What do you suggest for liver support? I do take milk thistle now and then. Got sick and tired of all the supps and took a break! NEED TO DO THEM AGAIN.
How do parasites affect the skin? I do know that my daughter has parasites. I'll look into that.
Never heard of "satellite" rashes but that could be me. always the same areas: mirror areas on legs and arms, weird!
thanks for your quick reply, Keebler!

Lyme Disease; Comprehensive overview covers symptoms, treatment, diagnosis and prevention of this tick-borne illness.
. . . rashes can mimic spider bite, ringworm, or cellulitis.
Multiple, so-called satellite rashes may appear on different parts of the body. . . .

- Too tired to continue but you can search Gotu Kola as the herb links in this thread. Same for liver support.
Good luck. --------------------------------
For herbal & nutritional supplements, it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL doctor who has had 4 years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -- and someone who is current with ILADS' research. -----------------------
Integrative / Holistic M.D., etc. (but be aware many in this category are not formally educated in herbal medicine other than a weekend lecture here and there)
Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:
Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures;
Knowing that support supplements are important, but NEVER enough alone. And knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.
You can compare and contrast many approaches.

Does your doctor think it could be a sign of lyme flares? Like something kicks it up and then it settles down? Are you still on abx?
So sorry to hear about your daughter. Both my kids have Lyme... and I got pretty depressed when the second one got bit last summer. I was like, wow! how could this happen!!?? She had a great big bullseye and arthritis in the knees with a week or so.
Hope things improve.

Thanks for all the info! I was reading your post and it hit me. My daughter had 4 bouts of cellulitis before being dx with Lyme. Wish I would have read that 2 years ago! She had tons of mosquito bites before it all started with the cellulitis.
Marypart, I think my LLMD is quite baffled with me actually. She can't believe I can be on abx while they keep reoccuring. Yes, I just finished a run of doryx and zith and now doing amox and zith. Last time I did amox I really improved so I am very hopeful. So sorry both of your kids have Lyme. I can't imagine trying to keep everything straight for 3 sick people. I'm stressed out that my other daughter and husband are next. I love my home but am willing to move to where, I don't know......it's all very depressing for me.

Just to make note. I have also had recurring bulls eyes. One before treatment and the second occurred after several months of treatment while I was on IV Rocephin, zith and plaquinil.
I believe there is literature that also documents this happening.
