I know, another pro contra article on the web. Lyme is confusing as it is and so am I. Sounds a little radical but what do I know. Any opinions?

I did see that article.

There are always going to be opinions for and against antibiotics. You have to make the decision for yourself on how you wish to treat.

This is a very touchy subject. I was reading comments about an 11 yr. old who died of sepsis last week in NY. This child was denied antibiotics in the ER and sent home with a blue nose and vomiting.

There were actually parents commenting on this Yahoo article saying they would rather risk their child's health than to give them antibiotics that they would become immune to.

These dr's have made antibiotics very hard to get and seem to be only showing the negative side of these drugs.

I am so torn on this issue. On the one hand,I think antibiotics have been so toxic to my system and after nearly dying of c diff I have become very afraid of them.

At the same time, a few yrs ago I had lesions on my brain and was hallucinating and antibiotics did take that horror away, even though I am still so desperately sick with so many symptoms.

I think we all have to make individual choices as to what treatment path to take. I am pretty much open to anything that is relatively safe and has a shot of getting me well, and I honestly think you have a damn hard time getting rid of lyme without some antibiotics. That being said, I and some other people I know have a ton of coinfections that antibiotics alone will not touch. So every treatment plan must be unique and multifaceted.

I think its a mistake to have such pro and con thinking on this issue. I don't think its all black and white. Treating this illness is so complex and it requires an approach that I think needs to mix traditional treatments like antibiotics with herbs and even experimental stuff like rife. Just my two cents. Jess.

Nothing is worse than untreated lyme &/or other tick-borne infections. [Although, of course, there are other illnesses that are also terrible.]

Lyme can destroy lives.

Treatment is not just taking this or that antibiotic. This is why you need an ILADS-educated LL doctor. One who knows the science of borrelia and other TBD - and the full range of protective support methods. Below are:

SUPPORT METHODS that can help keep the body safe during antibiotic treatment.

OTHER ways to approach treatment.

-----------------------------------------------

When considering herbal / nutritional / adjunct methods:

if at all possible - because each person & each case is different - it's best to consult with an ILADS-educated LL (lyme literate) doctor who has completed four years of post-graduate medical education in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine -

- and someone who is current with ILADS' research & presentations, past and present.

Many LL NDs incorporate antibiotics (depending upon the licensing laws in their state). Some LLMDs and LL NDs have good working relationships.

When possible, it's great to have both a LLMD and LL ND and even better when they have a long-standing professional relationship.

-----------------------

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/2/13964

How to find an ILADS-educated LL:

N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor);

L.Ac. (Acupuncturist);

D.Ay. (Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine);

D.O.M. (Doctor of Oriental Medicine);

Integrative / Holistic M.D., etc. (Be aware that those in this category can have various levels of formal herbal &/or nutritional education, perhaps even just a short course. Do ask first.)

Links to many articles and books by holistic-minded LL doctors of various degrees who all have this basic approach in common:

Understanding of the importance of addressing the infection(s) fully head-on with specific measures from all corners of medicine;

knowing which supplements have direct impact, which are only support and which are both.

You can compare and contrast many approaches.

BASIC HERBAL EDUCATIONAL & SAFETY links,

BODY WORK links with safety tailored to lyme patients,

LOW HEAT INFRARED SAUNA detail,

BIONIC 880 (& PE-1) links, and

RIFE links.

(What ILADS is) . . . WHY you need an ILADS-educated, Lyme Literate Doctor - starting with assessment / evaluation whether LLMD, LL ND or both.

Ah, the site's working again.

I kind of take Natural News articles with a grain of salt. I mostly like some of their stuff on foods that heal,etc..

This one bugged me a bit initially because I'm still waiting to start abx treatment.

I have a pretty sensitive Gut and have never really absorbed abx , or any meds very well.

They usually do nothing but give me their side effects.

Although there are some points to ponder the article doesn't present much back up info, research,etc..

By the way, it seems like in a matter of a few months I completely improved the condition of my Gut just by changes in my diet.

Really the first time in my life or at least since I can remember.

In general I feel lousier than ever but my Gut has really done a 360.
