Has anyone tried taking a Multi-Enzyme Formula on an empty stomach so that it works like systemic enzymes?

Brand name systemic enzymes (Wobenzym, Boluoke,Serrapeptase, etc)are expensive.

I have Vitamin Shoppe Brand Multi-Enzyme Formula.

I think I may add it to the Wobenzym that I take at night and see what happens.

I don't know the answer.
I see that Wobenzym uses papaya, while the enzymes I take don't.
Could that the a key?

I picked the product with the most protein enzymes listed, that's what I went by. Wobenzym, while recommended on the forums, wasn't available.

Anybody know if there's a solid reason for choosing the brand names?

My multi-enzyme formula contains Papain which is from papaya, it says.

Also contains Pancreatin, Betaine HCl, Amylase, Protease, Pepsin, Oxbile, Lipase, Bromelain, and Cellulase.

I think it's possible that a less expensive brand may work as well. You may have to try a few to find one or a combo that works to relieve your pain.

I looked at the Vitamin Shoppe product and would not recommend that you take it on an empty stomach as a systemic enzyme. It has HCL and ox bile, I think you should only take those if you are going to eat. Otherwise they may really irritate your stomach.

My Naturopath recommends Vitalzym, you can compare the ingredients (Protease, serrapeptase, papain, bromelain, amylase, lipase, rutin and amla) and maybe find a product that is similar.

I use iherb often and it's easy to pull up the supplement ingredients and compare prices. I was surprised to find that one month supply of vitalzym is only $39, I thought it used to cost more!

I saw this treead as I Am intrested in taking enzymes to help better absorb my food and I have been told by my naturopath that these are fine to take but what exactly is the point of taking then other than for nutrient absorption?

If taken on an empty stomach will they help the abx better absorb into the blood stream, are they ok to take with abx?

I don't know that digestive enzymes do the same thing in the blood stream that the "systemic enzymes" do. And I agree that an enzyme product containing ox bile and HCl should not be taken if one is not going to eat a meal.

Enzymes won't likely improve antibiotic absorption directly (I don't know of any enzyme that attaches to the antibiotic and causes it to be absorbed), however, digestive enzymes may improve gastrointestinal motility and/or decrease the digestive effort and thus indirectly improve overall nutrient (and antibiotic) absorption.

Bromelain also has anti-inflammatory properties, and that also may improve overall absorption of nutrients (and medications).

I take the digestive enzymes with the first bite of food and my abx after I finish eating. That is how my LLMD told me to take them.

Everyone is different, and some cheaper enzymes may work fine on some and not on others. You may just have to experiment and see what helps you. I use Enzymedica Gold and so far Iherb is the cheapest place to get them although they are not the most expensive enzymes they are more than the cheaper ones.

Vitalzym has several different formulas. Some require you take more but seem to cost less. The best one is for inflammation and is supposed to be taken between meals.

It all depends on how much support you need. I also take Betaine hcl and extra bromelain with my enzymes. I have been hit hard by Lyme in the GI tract and need more enzymes.

Razzle is correct. The multi enzymes are to be taken with food. Therefore they cannot work on hypercoagulation or whatever inflammation you are trying to address. They will only be working on the food in your stomach.

Wobenzym, Boluoke, etc will help abx get into your tissues and cells and reduce inflammation. They are to be taken on an empty stomach.

PS.. I used to take Rutozym and it helped inflammation. (inexpensive)

I am questioning this because some of the ingredients in my multi-enzyme formula are the same as some of the ingredients in my Wobenzym..and a couple are different.

for it to work you would need to take them on an empty stomach and as someone said... the multi enzymes would not be good for you on an empty stomach

You just don't want to take the supplement with the HCL and ox bile on an empty stomach. That will eat your stomach, possibly cause GERD or ulcer symptoms.

Some of the enzymes are the same in digestive and systemic enzymes. Big difference is digestive enzymes usually have lactase for milk protein and some other enzymes for digesting veggies and grains.

The pancreatin (protease, amylase, lipase) enzymes help break down proteins when used in digestive enzymes or taken with food. When taken on an empty stomach they can help reduce inflammation. Same with the Bromelian and Papain.

Amla can help reduce biofilms, it is used in many systemic enzymes.

Serrapeptase is a powerful anti-inflammatory enzyme that is only used in the systemic enzymes. It is also supposed to help break down fibrin and prevent clots.

This looks like a good systemic enzyme that is cheaper, $25.75 for a month supply:
http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-RejuvenZyme-120-Capsules/7936

Keep looking around for something that will work for you. At one point my ND had me take just Bromelian. I don't remember how much or how often though, it was a long time ago...

Does serrapeptase help to break down biofilms as well , since I am already on doxy, planq and biaxin which can hit a bit of Bart, Lyme fry bug etc would it make sence to take it while on these meds to help break up the biofilms that this vrap hides in?

I take betaine HCI pepsin & bitters first thing in the AM.. w/empty stomach..does work.. been doing for 2 months and no problem. I have chronic gerd/gastritis/ibs.. etc.. and it has caused any flare ups. This was suggested by BWF patient who saw him for treatment.

In addition I also take digestive enzymes with my food and pancretin & Lipotropics Complex as well as many other supplements..

Good Luck..

The digestive enzymes are just different things, they help digest food, don't expect them to break up biofilm.
