So I have VERY low stomach acid. Thats been confirmed.
I bought BETAINE HCL capsules and had one heck of a weird reaction to them. I took them with each meal and worked up to 8 capsules without feeling a burn in my chest . LLMD said thats a big indicator that my stomach acid is VERY VERY LOW.
however. i noticed that a few hours after taking the hcl. I would get very tired, and feel sick. The day after i took the 8 capsules i felt AWEFUL. my head felt so out of it and dizzy. my eyes were puffy. I'm still feeling the results considering this all happened just yesterday!
My LLMD told me thats a an unusual reaction and to stop taking it because it obviously didnt agree with me
she told me to use ACV instead. i need like double the dose to handle my food . food feels like its just SITTING in my chest if i only have 2 teaspoons of it. so i take 2 TABLESPOONS with each meal
i cant really tell right now. maybe im just feeling too crappy at this point because of the HCL reaction but i feel like im herxing from the apple cider vinegar. its making me feel really CRAPPY. my head feels really lightheaded and i feel tired and worn out
i know its known for detoxing the body. is it giving me a detox reaction??
my god. its just so confusing. either way i need to find SOMETHING to supplement because i have such low stomach acid and eating is painful without either HCL or Apple Cider Vinegar.
What else can I use to help aid in stomach acid when I eat. can REGULAR vinegar be used instead???
thanks!

According to the livestrong article link above, too much HCl supplements too quickly can cause fatigue, i.e., a detox reaction. And because HCl can break down biofilm, it can also trigger a herx.
So I'd suggest backing off on the HCl and only take ONE capsule at the most per day for a while.
An alternative form is TMG (trimethylglycine)...
And if you have methylation issues, taking HCl or TMG will likely cause a detox reaction as your methylation cycle begins to function correctly again in the presence of increased methyl donors.
That said, chloride (from sodium chloride) and water are what the body uses to make HCl. So if you are low in either (dehydrated, electrolyte imbalance), then this can lead to reduced HCl.

Eight capsules is a lot. I have taken six with a meal when I've eaten out and eaten a bunch of stuff I don't normally eat. Normally I would only take two.
I do find that when I "properly combine" foods, I don't need as much (I don't need it at all anymore eating Primal Blueprint style).

I would assume the acid could also immediately start digesting/killing intestinal parasites, ya?

I agree with others that you could start taking one and perhaps try 2 after a week or so.
Swedish bitter preparations are also said to encourage stomach acid to increase, so might be worth trying.

This is why Dr K uses ACV for biofilm
