I was bit by a tick in 2003 while still breastfeeding my daughter. I did not take any abx right away because I was told the chances of me getting LD were 1-3% and the doxy might discolor my daughter's teeth.

I continued to nurse her for 5 weeks, even as I was sick (flu-like sx and Bell's Paley).

Sure enough, 6 weeks after that, she began to develop chest pain, fever, wheezing, cough, nasal discharge, vomiting off and on for many months. There was a very scary episode of very strange stomach breathing while she was sleeping that lasted for an hour.

Can Babesia be transmitted through breastmilk? How does it survive the stomach acid?

Fast forward 9 years later. She has been treated for Lyme (obviously passed through breastmilk) the past 2-3 years off and on. She's on Ceftin right now, but we stopped today because she's been on it for about 4 months and I think it's lost its effectiveness. For the last week, she is having terrible cold-like sx: headache, stuffy and runny nose, red and watery eyes. No fever.

Should I start Babs treatment now? We have Clindamycin-Quinine and Biaxin-Plaquenil on hand which was prescribed by our LLMD. I tried that protocol (put me in the ER - could not breath!), and the Malarone-Zithromax protocol which is what I'm on now. Yes, it took me about 8.5 years and 2 LLMD's to realize I had Babs! [bonk]

I love the Malarone-Zith protocol, but our LLMD did not prescribe that for her (just the Clinda/Quinine one).

Can kids take the Malarone? She is 11.

Since it's working so well for me (aside from the first 2 weeks of sometimes scary air hunger), I thought it might work well for her.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thank you manybites!

She gets bitten by mosquitos all the time.

As much as our family has been through (I have another one in treatment, and one who is off treatment and doing OK), my kids still think I'm a crazy lady when I talk about protection and vector born disease.

My oldest daughter (15) came home with 18 mosquito bites last week!!

This was after her friend told her they were going to go hiking and to wear long pants and bug spray!

Teenagers-ugh!

Thankfully, my 13yo son kind of listens to me. He got sick again last year after getting a ton of mosquito bites in northern WI.

He was even taking Ceftin (?) and Rifampin at the time!

Last night he went fishing and before he left, put on long sleeves and pants and sprayed the bug spray. Yippee!
