Ok, so I've had Asthma for a while, and one instance of Pleural Effusion (water in the lining of the lung), and this shortness of breath and upper left chest pain & upper left back pain is similar to how I felt with the pleural effusion.

No coughing, such as what I get with Asthma (I have cough variant asthma).

But went to the ER and chest x-ray and chest CT and labwork are all "normal".......so what the heck coinfection or is this Lyme...?????

I've determined that normal tests in the setting of certain symptoms always = Lyme/coinfections.

But which one does the shortness of breath thing? Feels like my lungs are constricted somehow, can't get a deep breath without stabbing pain in the upper chest/upper back.

Walking around even causes me to huff and puff, which isn't normal for me.

Or has my asthma just switched from being cough variant to regular wheezy asthma...though they didn't hear any wheezing at the ER either???

Any ideas??

Oh, currently, I'm on Andrographis & Flagyl as Lyme treatment, and am clinically diagnosed with Bartonella in addition to the CDC positive Lyme.

No LLMD (I've seen 2 LLMD's and 2 LLND's) or LLND has mentioned Babesia or other coinfections.

I personally think I might have Anaplasma because of low blood cell counts (chronically low RBC & WBC - especially lymphocytes, intermittantly low platelets).

Thoughts?

Thanks,

i think babs can causesob...and the test is not great...why do llmds not think you have it...

i'd say it could be the weather...but you are in one of the places not so hot, right?

i was once dx copd and suppoeably you cant get over it...but it was caused by bad building air and when i got away from the air i was able to get off meds-all 10 of them

i was dx with asthma at the same time...i was 50

i have been having trouble recently too...and on and off i get the pain in chest and back when breathing in...

but my stress tests are always fine

hopefully somene will come along that knows more than me...i have the same problem but no cure

Well, I very rarely get fevers, have never had night sweats, and don't really have any of the "hallmark" Babesia symptoms.

I know this doesn't mean I don't have Babs., just doesn't seem as obvious symptomwise like Lyme & Bart. are for me...

Yes, we've been rather cool here, in the 60's mostly...but supposed to get a little warmer the rest of this week.

Thanks for your reply...

From Burrascano:

"Babesia infection is becoming more commonly recognized, especially in patients who already have Lyme Disease. It has been published that as many as 66% of Lyme patients show serologic evidence of co-infection with Babesia microti. It has also been reported that Babesia infections can range in severity from mild, subclinical infection, to fulminant, potentially life threatening illness. Subclinical infection is often missed because the symptoms are incorrectly ascribed to Lyme." (page 23)

I really didn't have any babs symptoms either, but I tested positive through Igenex.

Statistically, you have it.

Mild or subclinical cases don't have the babs symptoms. I never had night sweats or any kind of sweats. I never had fevers.

I was just on Alina for about a month and my breathing has definately gotten easier. I"m so happy to see an improvement because I have a possible dx of ALS so any positive sign is encouraging.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to discuss coinfections *again* with my current Lyme doc but hold no hope for any help until I get in to a new Lyme doc later this Summer...

Thanks,
