My old LLMD said the CMS powder is 'stronger'.

Generally their intended use is to mop up bad crap, yes. They are different substances and do not function identically.
Welchol is a brand name for a particular drug, by the way, and it contains plenty of extra chemicals to make it smell and taste disgusting. Cholestyramine, at least, can be purchased more purely formulated, from a compounding pharmacy, if one cares about that kind of stuff. The regular versions of CSM are also junky.

The welchol I have is powder in a little square packet.
I should have phrased the topic differently. I know that csm and welchol aren't the same thing.
I meant to ask if they basically did the same thing or achieved the same purpose, as in absorbing toxins and relieving herxing.

Gigimac, just in case you don't tolerate Welchol or Cholestyramine, then Olestra (sucrose fatty acid polyester) could also be a cheap option because Olestra will also remove toxins from the body. Actually, Olestra's ability to remove toxins from the body has been known for over 30 years and apparently it's quite effective for removing various toxins from the body.
Personally, I felt terrible while taking Cholestyramine but I tolerated Olestra relatively well.

CSM is apparently the one to choose for mold toxins (except for those who can't tolerate it).
