MY pain has been increasing since starting bactrim. I am weak all over arms very heavy everything is stiff.
But my shins are killing me along we my feet. And my achiles. Everything feels inflammed. I had to wrap my legs and feet in ace badages today annd I am at work with a heating pad on them.
Its pretty bad, I just wanted to make sure this was a herx. And not some tendon damage caused from Bactrim like Levaquin. If its a herx I wanted to stick with it bc its beating the crap out of something.
Thanks for the help.

Bartonella die off. What dose did you start at? What macrolide or tetra are you taking with it?

I just want to make sure I am not doing damage. Anything I can do for pain.

I don't think it is a side effect and agree it is a flare due to die off. (mind you I am not a doctor...DISCLAIMER.)
FYI..I had achillees pain a few weeks back when I started going after Bart again as well.
Got me wondering if the whole tendon issue was really a side effect of Levaquin or a herx due to Bart.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am erily calm. I am usually very very anxious cant rest. All I have is pain. Not a lot of neuro, knock on wood. I can do pain.
I cant believe how effective Bactrim is. I wish I went on it sooner.
Is there anything I can do for pain.

manybites swears that the levaquin phenomenon is a Bart herx. It's very possible in my experience.
My knees were in so much pain and then a few days later my LEFT foot/achilles (Bart has always been left side dominant for me)
Nevertheless it was too painful and way too risky.
manybites recommends lowering the load first with something like Bactrim or Rifampin, etc before hitting with levaquin.
And I think even then she only did 1 1/2 months on it (don't quote me though)

I tried Levaquin and 3 days all my tendoms were inflammed my LLMD got nervous and said rather be safe than sorry.
I just hope its a herx and I come out better.
I am always worried I am getting worse. or its a new infection emerging.
I am so tired of dealing with this. I am very sad today

It very much sounds like a herx tricia.
Get some Arnica gel and use it every 3-4 hours. Amazing stuff. Rub it on shins, tendons, muscles.
Take some extra magnesium (I use MagTabs SR)
And consider putting your ankles/knees in a brace if you have to walk around for next few weeks or months. I was wearing an annkle brace to work and limping. But arnica gel and magnesium had me "fixed up" in 3-4 days.

The other thing you can do is as much detox as possible.
See this thread to see what Dr. H. recommends for detox:
Detox is the key to making herxes as mild as possible.
I got rid of babs and bart on Bactrim. That was over 7 years ago. Wish you the best.

Yes. Just like everyone else is telling you. That's why I am advising you to detoxify yourself.
As soon as I started on Bactrim, I got horrendous babs flares every 7 days like clockwork.
These flares were unbelievable. That's what happens when you have an effective antibiotic.
Bactrim hits bart and babs, per my lyme doctor. It worked for me.
Bactrim does not have the side effect of damaging tendons, so as long as you have given us a complete list of your meds, you are not taking anything that will damage tendons. So, your symptoms have to be flares/herxes.

Wow ! I thought that type of reaction was from the non=sulfa drug in Bactrim ..
.I had the leg ,foot, low back pain 9 days after starting the Abx that is only the "T" word ingredient of Bactrim. Very long name..That was in 09 while traveling. Googled it and found a kinda chat page on it giving same effects. Some didn't reverse for a while. I was only on it a few days and stopped it..
Replaced it with Zith..That was all for a " bladder infection". Way before diagnosed with this.
.So when LLMD had me try it again I was hesitant , but this time was Bactrim, both, ABx's in it. Didn't take but 4 days to get the same pain.....so I stopped.. Now I wonder....
I had always been warned about sulfa,,That's how I ended up trying both ways..
So is it a reaction or were they Herx's..
So many people had good results with Bactrim, some not. Is it TuTu that did well on it?
This can be such a crazy hard puzzle...
