My second injection was given this past Wed. Given by a friend of my sister while my sister observed. Friend is experienced in giving injections but not B-LA. The B-LA had been out of fridge two hours. (was OK?) Was given slowly. That injection hurt much less than the one given by the "nurse" just out of fridge and injected quickly. Both given dorsal gluteal.
Anyway, with syringe and needle in hand we were still unsure what to do. The pink "lock" stays on while injection given? Friend put the needle on - lowered the lock - and we did not then know what to do. To test she squeezed one small drop out of the tip. Seeing that it worked with the pink thing on - she swabbed the end of the needle with alcohol then injected.
Needless to say the "nurse" in the office gave me/sister no instructions.
FWIW the set-up was not the complicated Tubex cartridge which I had worried we really would not be able to figure out.
So what all did I/we do wrong? I survived. Am less sore. Feel like I am herxing. TIA.

When you say "lock" do you mean the plastic needle cover? It is attached to the needle, you flip it down to cover the needle after you withdraw the needle when the shot is done. This protects the nurse/caregiver from needle sticks.
Next time just attach the needle to the syringe and don't prime or push any medicine through the needle. Leave the tiny air bubble (remember to allow for visualization during aspiration).
Glad you are feeling less sore! Hopefully you will start feeling better soon

If the giver is right handed the injection should be given with the right hand? Left hand "spreads" skin and holds syringe steady when aspirating, right?
I had watched the YouTube video about preparing and it confused me in regards to the "pink thing".
I have given countless injections - just had not seen any needles with safety features. I/we did not even know it was a safety feature.
At about the 2:15 mark she says "pull down the safety lock". The next steps must then be remove the needle cap and inject.

I had never seen that youtube video until you posted it.
As you noted, it is not good to push the air bubble out of the Bicillin LA syringe. This is the manufacturer's recommendation, not simply my preference. If they recommend it then you should try to follow their recommendations for safety. You can find those directions in the prescribing information that comes with the box of Bicillin LA syringes.
When I give shots I typically brace or pinch the skin with my left hand and use my right (dominate) hand to hold the syringe. Once I insert the needle I rest my right hand with the of my palm down against the body to steady the syringe and hold the skin. Then I aspirate with the left hand and push the medicine in. Others may have another method, that's OK, this is what works for me.
Once you flip the safety lock over the needle tip it will lock in place and you will not be able to pull it back down towards the syringe. Be careful not to do that with a new unused needle until you are ready to discard it.
