I think I'm herxing a second time. I was newly diagnosed a few weeks ago with a bulls-eye rash on my arm.

The first two weeks of doxycycline were hell, I was totally worn out and had horrid pain.

I started to feel better over the last 3 days. I woke up this morning in hell again. The only thing that's changed is I'm diflucan daily now (this is my 5th day of it).

I've heard that every 4 weeks you can have a herx reaction because of the bacterial cycles die off.

Any insights would be helpful. I can barely function like this (I'm taking probiotics correctly and doing detox stuff too).

Is what I'm experiencing normal? Is this herxing too soon? Can you herx on diflucan (I thought that only happened on regular anti-biotics).

Thanks.

You can "herx" on Diflucan if you have a lot of yeast in your body.

The lyme cycle is every 3-5 wks.

This is all very normal.. Expect more.

Be thankful you had any good days at all.

Let's hope you can get rid of this with adequate treatment!

How many weeks worth of antibiotics do you have? What dosage??

I now have 28 days total of doxycycline, 100mg tabs, 2 times per day from an infectious disease doc. My PCP initially only gave me 21 days.

I had a fungal, skin infection that started along with the bulls-eye rash. My immune system went nuts.

I was given 2 tabs of diflucan at first (took one the same day I started doxy and another a week later).

I went to an infectious disease doc last Thursday and the fungal rash was still there. He said I was going to build "resistance" taking diflucan a week apart like that (I still have no idea if he meant resistance to diflucan or rash or what).

He then told me to take diflucan 10 days straight.

That's not enough for an acute case. You could go chronic on that low dosage.

Dump the ID Dr if you want to avoid that.

He meant resistance to the fungus. So yes, take it everyday for 10 days for best results.

I would want 200mg twice a day for at least 6 wks if it were me.

Thank you for explaining!

The fungal rash has actually gotten worse on the higher dose of diflucan. Some parts have gone down and then it's just expanded into the neighboring parts turning them red. [Frown]

I'm going to make some phone calls to see if I can get more help.
