I've been on Mepron and Zith for 10 weeks. I think, not 100% sure, that I am starting to see the babs symptoms go away. I am very eager to start Bart treatment because I am 100% sure i have that too. My feet and palms are burning (plus headaaches, neck pain etc.) But, i don't wnat to quit babs tx too soon and have it come raging back. my babs smear was positive so i will do another FISH before I stop the mepron. Do you think clear smears are reliable evience that babs is gone??

Thanks!

My FISH test was negative after 7 months of Mepron. The test was not correct.

After 18 months babs treatment, I relapsed. Babs treatment takes a long time.

I am treating bart with Levaquin while taking Malarone for babs.

The life of a red blood cell is approximately 120 days.

My first round of Mepron was for 4.5 months then on to Rifampin for about 5 months. Babs symptoms started back in so it was back to round 2 on Mepron since early March 2012.

Just starting to feel improvements with brain fog and head pressure. ASnd some days I can actually think

GMB -- Did you get rid of Bart before re-starting babs treatment?

RZR -- 18months!? Were you on Mepron? That seems like a long time? Do oyu think your meds weren't effective?

This is so frustrating! Don't want to give up too soon, but so anxious to move on....

I was on Mepron 12 months with high dose of 2 teaspoons twice daily the last 6 months of it. Then Switched to Malarone for 6 months. Now, back on Malarone after being off 5 months...took A-Babs 2 months after stopping Malarone.

Babs stinks!

Jessiep,

Don't know if I beat Bart while on the short stint on Rifampin. I took the Rif with Zith and Doxy for two months then I had to take a few weeks off all abx in December due to elevated liver enzymes.

Then started IV Rocephin and oral Zith, then added Rifampin back in for only two more months more weeks before having to go back after Babs.

Most of my current symptoms are peripheral neuroprophy either from neuro-Lyme or Bart.
