My doctor just started me on 5 mg of morphine and in starting to have side effects from it. I have constipation, and sexual side effects. Is this normal? What could help? I am afraid of bringing it up because I dont want her to stop prescribing because it works for the pain really well.

Miralax works well for the constipation. It pulls water into the intestines and forms a gel to help push stool out. It is not a stimulant. Start with one capful daily. Mix it in your favorite drink. You can take more if needed. It's best to take it daily to have more regular bm's.

Magnesium works in similar manner. It draws water into the colon. You can take mag in increasing doses to bowel tolerance. Once you start having loose stools back down on your dose and take that lower amount as your daily maintenance dose.

Sex? what's that?////////////// [Big Grin]

Sorry,, couldn't help myself...

OK ,So Sexual side effects,,,??????I Know it's a sensitive subject but what kind???

Do you want to PM ????? Could be several reason's, including sick as all get-out, hormones, etc...

Bowels will get moving,,,,,take your probiotics, mag, and some other suggestions,,,drink water, then drink more....

All else fails---- several here do coffee enema's,,,, not fun, but effective.
Oxy-Powder from Global Health Center can get thing's moving...

Lot's of pure water with Lemon,,,I need to do a lot more of that..

Just thank God you have a doctor that doesn't believe in you suffering in pain. Many have to fight this.

There are alot of natural herbs that are good laxatives. Just google - herbal laxatives - . There are a bunch of them.

Dr. Schulze makes a good intestinal cleanse, too. I think the #1 is more of a laxative. #2 is more like a binder.

Plain old prune juice is also good.

I found that parasites caused alot of my "female problems"... Not a scientific fact but it was something that was a problem in my experience. They cause alot of problems...

Burdock Root is a great natural laxative, used by Native Americans.

Juice of 1 lime in half a glass of warm water on awakening and before bed can do wonders for the gut (constipation) too...worked very well for me before I developed an allergy to citrus fruits.

Honestly, the constipation part isn't the worst for me. The sexual side effects are awful. Haha sex what's that? That's what everyone says whenever a sexual question is mentioned. Just because we have this disease doesn't mean we have to be miserable! Well to be specific the morphine makes it so that I can never have an orgasm and it's very frustrating.
