My daughter is 6

she started zith about 6 weeks ago and omnicef about 8 days ago.

She has always had crazy skin...any reaction or virus shows on her skin

Last night she had an itchy rash in typical eczema parts of the body...behind knees, front of her wrist, but also on her arms and legs. But it wasn't eczema and it wasn't hives

It was splotchy and red and itchy but not dry and flaky like eczema. Some of the red splotches looked like streaks

I just wonder if this is part of a herx. She also says she has a headache but that is pretty typical for her.

Thanks

Does she have a Bart. Diagnosis? Research on google what a Bart rash looks like.

Good luck.

That's exactly what I was thinking Janice - sounds like Bart - especially the description of the "streaky" rash.

EFAs might help to alleve her discomfort. Safflower oil has worked for some of our family's kids who have a tendency to get eczema just as you describe... on the inside of joints. The nutritionist Adelle Davis recommended a TB of safflower oil per day to toddlers who were experiencing this. In the case of our own little ones, their lesions show up when they eat anything with artificial color - or if they are given "low fat" dairy foods.

This is just a personal observation, but I'm wondering if Cod Liver Oil wouldn't help too. We take an "unfortified" natural dose form, like Carlson - 800 IU A and 400 IU D per teaspoon - as this supplies A for skin healing, and D and DHA/EPA (fish oils), which are anti-inflammatory and promote brain repair.

My SO sometimes gets eczema in the winter, and finds that taking CLO by even a couple of tablespoonfuls, helps it to clear up within a few days. (But when it got really bad once, a handful of tanning sessions also helped a lot.)

She was only cultured/blood tested for Lyme, she was not yet tested for coinfections

Apparently it was congenital Lyme....I have not treated for Bart as babs symptoms seem more prominent so I don't know.

Hadn't even thought about Bart...even as I posted this message and the part about the streaks.

It doesn't look exactly like the pictures I googled but there was a lot of variability in the appearances of those.

What are the other prominent symptoms of Bart? What are the treatments?

Have her doc take a look.

He really should see it esp. because of the streaks you mentioned.

OK..this might seem like a really idiotic question with an obvious answer

If she does have bart, and she has congenital lyme.....I probably have it too right?

I have been just starting babs treatment.

The reason I ask is that for bart it frequently says "neuro symptoms out of balance with physical" or you get the point right?

Will take pics. Doc is in DC and I just switched her to my doc....and we will be seeing her in September.

Really need input regarding: Do I potentially have Bart then?

Really important (obviously) for treatment.

Thanks

Nearly everyone with lyme also has bart and babs. That is the reality of it.

Your lyme doctor is attacking the coinfection that is currently giving you the most trouble. That is the way a good lyme doctor treats.

After babs, I have no doubt that you will be treated for bart. So, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Of all the lyme patients I have met in Maryland, every single one of them also found that they had babs and bart. Just one person claims to have avoided having one of the "two B's."

Lyme patients in the other northeast states are all the same way.

This is so prevalent, that all good lyme doctors now automatically treat every lyme patient for "the Big Three" as they call them--lyme, babs, and bart. That's what Dr. H. does right off the bat.

So, don't be surprised when you are done with babs treatment that the doc starts you on bart treatment to see what happens.

If you now both have the same doc, you can show the doc your daughter's rashes and discuss the possibility of bart in both of you. See what the doc says.

So most ticks carry the big three at least?

Nobody ever mentioned bart to me, although I am sure you are right TF about treatment.

Lyme, Babs, then brain symptoms next (I hope that works)...maybe bart after that.

I wish I had taken pics when the rash was at its worst (I am sure it will becoming back) I did take a picture of one of the streaks today but it is not as impressive as it was a few days ago (we have every skin treatment known to man). Plus she has recently had Molescum removed so the "scars" from that are also present on her skin

Good thing she is adorable otherwise!!

Thank you for answering my stupid question, sometimes you just need confirmation of this craziness.

I'm on the west coast, and my LLMD and I are about 99% sure I don't have Babesia - but also was infected by feral cats.

I gestationaly passed Lyme and Bartonella to 1 of my daughters from breast feeding (I had no idea, no treatment.)

I've never remembered any streaks on myself- but day 2 of Levaquin they showed up on my back- nodules on the head, red moles had been showing up over the years.

My daughter has had flawless skin-
But the first time on Azithromycin, she got a red splotchy rash,
not streaks,
which at the time I thought was Scarlatina (strep rash)

Still not sure, we were treating PANDAS at the time, this was my guess at the time by looking online.

IMO, treating my daughter has been much more difficult than myself---

Try to do the best you can--

positive Bartonella henselae Igenex, 2011.
low positive Fry biofilm test, 2012.
Update 7/16- After extensive treatments,
doing okay!

By the way, didn't mean to end my post in a downer-

My daughter, 7, began health treatments 3 years ago, and we have substantial, lasting gains (does very well in school, etc.)

We took a break and have had a relapse, so I'm down- hard to see them suffer, I'm sure you know what I mean, it affects the whole family.

but, keep the faith :-). I have to remind myself!

No big deal! I know where you are coming from. No worries whatsoever. Every little bit of informtion is important.

Hope things get better for her. It is hard to watch them suffer although I think that my DD is responding much better to treatment than I am...it rarely gets her down!
