Well I've made it through 9 days of 250mg of Levofloxacin for suspected Bartonella co-infection. I'm experiencing herx of aching, swelling wrists (one of which has previous fractures) aching and swelling of ankles, sore feet especially bottoms, especially tighter and more tense shoulders and neck pain, severe but quickly fleeting shooting pains in left abs and various areas like a spider bite pain. Knees are pretty sore on inner sides as well, ears and glands in neck sore. I had previously colonies of bumps under skin mostly on top of thighs and still have. I'm scared about the tendon rupture warnings on this abx but have increased my magnesium to 1,000mg a day, but have yet to up my Vit C, which would probably be a good idea. I wonder if a tendon is particularly stressed to a point of possible rupture if you would actually have no use of that limb with overwhelming pain or how you would know ??? silly question probably. Take care of YOU all

Be careful even AFTER stopping the drug. Your tendons will be vulnerable.
Moving this to Medical Questions.
PS .. More people can read your post if you break it up into smaller paragraphs.

First, this is not a silly question. It is a very logical question and it has been asked by many.
Generally, the tendon that is hit by Levaquin is the achilles tendon. You would first notice a tightness or soreness in the tendon. That is the symptom of the so-called "tendonitis" caused by levaquin. The tendon gets inflammed, basically.
If you notice anything like that, then you may want to stop the med or call the doc and ask for advice.
Here is a page from a lyme book that talks about what to do:
My lyme doc said this side effect is rare. I lifted weights while taking Levaquin. I had no problems with it. Took it for 30 days.
If a tendon ruptures, you will definitely know it because of the pain it will cause.
Tendons attach muscles to bones, so if the tendon ruptures, it would definitely affect your ability to use the limb.
Tendons are located right above and below joints. This is where the lower leg muscle, for example, attaches to the heel. Right above the ankle.

Thanks for the tip Lymetutu, I try to remember to break up into paragraphs, just trying to remember how to spell is such an effort right now, lol.
I appreciate your comments. I've stopped my walking (exercise) in addition to work mostly due to the aches, pains and extreme muscle weakness. To reach out and grab a glass of water strains on my arm, to get up and walk from one room to another hurts my calves. I have a super hard time getting through work these days. I stand for about 6 hours marketing food products and demos, pushing, lifting, reaching etc.
I'm now starting to get the GI side effects pretty badly, I certainly suffer If I eat like I want too. I look like I'm 6 months pregnant, feel like a stretched baloon, have loose stools, cramps, shooting pains, gas, reflux etc. Hopefully gastritis medicine will be enough to help with that, plus I've added simethicone and pepsid. Tomorrow I'll start adding a whole levaquin to my Azithro and Ceftin on Wed, Thur & Fri, I'm scared of how badly that will effect my ability to work.
Everyone is so helpful here, I appreciate you all so much. I sure wish I could find a Support Group here locally.

Levaquin caused the most pain of any drug I took. My LLMD told me that the pain I was having, which was similar to yours, was likely a herx, that in his experience it didn't sound like a tendon problem.
I did exercise on Levaquin, but I was very careful. I didn't use free weights, only machines so that the movement was more controlled. Lower weight, too.
I found relief in epsom salt baths. They helped more than anything.

I made it through 32 days of Levaquin before the Achilles burning set in (darn it!). No way was I going to slog through it.
I stopped the med and 3-1/2 weeks later I am still dealing with Achilles issues. My MD said I was very wise to stop it immediately.
I will say this though, I think it did what it was supposed to do as far as killing off bartonella, but I will not touch this med again.
I am taking lots of mag, vit C. and fish oil. It's not getting worse but my MD said it could take months to recover.
