I've been taking one capsule of Metagenics Ultra Flora IB Probiotic w/ 60 Billion organisms. My tongue is black & the back of my tongue is all white (yeast).
Which Probiotic do you recommend & how many Billion organisms per day?
Thank you for your advice,
Jennifer

I take Bactrim ds and have a bad history with yeast infection and urinary tract infections.
So for probiotics I take "Raw probiotics women 85 billion live cultures and 32 probiotic strains"
It's recommended to take 3 a day but with work and school and timing between my abx I usually only get in 2. This helps me immensely.
I also had to stop eating sugar, bread, milk/cream, and no more alcohol. Without the probiotics I would def be suffering, but diet is also a huge factor.
If you haven't already try to cut out sugars and breads as well. This should help with the yeast. A Lyme specific diet really helps.
Everyone is individual so you gotta experiment a little to find what works best for you.
Good luck!

VSL #3 Double-Strength. Each packet has something like 900 billion cultures per refrigerated packet. It is prescription.
If your insurance covers it, the co-pay may be less expensive than buying high-quality at the healthfood store.

Lymetoo- I was totally under the impression that probiotics would kill out (or something like that) the yeast... Damn just another thing to figure out now.
My LLMD never gave me a suggestion on the type or the amount of probiotic to take.
After some experimentation the garden of life makes me feel very good. It is unfortunately very expensive. Something like 60$ for 90 capsules.
I still have a white tongue, but my stomach does not get upset anymore and I usually feel much worse without them.

Wow... LBS.. is that the powder form?? (VSL)
I think maybe it's only the VSL#3 DS that needs a prescription.
I've used the Ultimate Care.. but it makes me itch now. I think it's even dairy free. I've found 2-3 probos that make me itch. Have no clue what ingredient is doing it.

So that is a total of a whopping 323 Billion units / day.
I don't want to mess around with yeast. Ever.
My LLMD (a very well known one) said that even though VSL has a large quantity of organisms, most die in the stomach. He says Theralac is the best since more of it works its way into your intestines.

- You are very smart!! Yeast is awful to live with. And I think your Dr may be right about the VSL. I worried about that myself. However, when taking 1,800 CFU's a day, you'd think SOME of it would make it through!!

At the recommendation of my LLMD, I take iFlora Multi Probiotic by Sedona Labs. It has 16 strains and 40 billion viable cells per serving.
When I was on antibiotics, I took 3, 3 times a day. After years of battling yeast, I now just take 2 at bedtime because probiotics are the best thing you can do for your immune system.
I did use alternately use Theralac during treatment, but always felt that my digestive system worked better on the iFlora. Amazon has a few good sellers of it now.

When I used VSL#3 I didn't need a prescription. I took the 450 billion strength and bought it online. They ask for your doctor's name like they're insinuating you need a script, but you don't for the one I bought.
I also took Theralac and Ultra Flora in addition to the VSL#3.
The BEST probiotics IMO are ferments. Raw sauerkraut and other fermented veggies. Kefir, made at home ... homemade has over 35 strains, store bought only 10. And kombucha.

My understanding and recent experience is that you need a script for the Double Strenght version - VSL#3DS - but not the regular version.

I would think it would be a lot cheaper for many people if they could get the prescription version. It's pricey!

I've had great luck with Klaire Labs. I take the abx formula every day and switch off with one of the other formulas between the woman's and therbiotic.

I have a question; I've been taking a liquid live probiotic kefir that which averages over 100 billion probiotic CFU's per 1 TBS serving. I've just started Levoquin for co-infection Bartonella and am wondering if this type of probiotic should be sufficient? Thank you in advance for your comments on this matter. ;-)

I use Vitacost 15-35 Probiotics, which have 15 strains and 35 billion live organisms per dose. They are also coated to get past stomach acid.
They are having a BOGO sale right now that includes the 240 pill bottles of 15-35 Probiotics, so it's a good way to save.
I also take prescription fluconazole, 100 mgs. twice weekly as an anti-thrush booster, and use a Neti pot to keep fungus out of my sinuses.
