Hi I just found a tick crawling on me. Don't think it bit but just want to have it tested to be sure. I'm in the MD/DC area wondering if anywhere you knew would test it for lyme and co-infections. Please advise. Thanks!

Igenex .. www.igenex.com

But don't expect it to be any more accurate than for humans.

It's about $55 or $60 for each disease you are testing it for.

I meant the actual tick itself. Can they test the actual tick?

I live in California and we can take the ticks to our local Health Dept and they will check it. You may want to try that.
The results come back in about 7 days.

If you go to the Igenex site,
click on "Forms and Sample Requirements,"
and then on "Test Request Forms."

Then click on "Tick Test Request Form."

That form has the directions and a list of the tests you can order.

Most states have labs where you can send it.
Check with your local State health office.

In Maryland, I see there's one in Germantown.
"Clongen Labs". clongen(dot)com. Call 'em up!

Or go to their homepage & click on the lower LEFT drop-down menu ("tick testing" is the 3rd one down).
Looks like it's 75 buckeroos for the one test, though (for BB). You may find a State lab that's cheaper.

yes, that is what I meant also

If you want it tested for babesia, that is one charge.. Lyme is another, etc.

I don't test crawling ticks. You have to realize that Igenex is going to take about 3 weeks to give you the result of the tick testing.

If you are concerned about this tick, then you really should go on doxy or something like that. You don't want to wait 3 weeks to find out the tick had lyme. Then, if it had lyme, what will you do? Start doxy then?

If you are on lyme meds now, you don't even have to worry about getting lyme from that tick. If you are also on babs and bart meds now, you don't have to worry about those diseases either. You are covered according to my lyme doc.

I am in Maryland also. I have read and my doc agrees that once you have had lyme, if you are then bitten by a tick with lyme, you will get the bulls eye rash.

It was true in my case. I didn't get the rash when I first got lyme, but about 4 years after getting rid of lyme, I must have been rebitten because I saw a bulls eye right where I had lain some weeds on my arm. So, back to my lyme doc and got treated for 30 days.

That's when we had the discussion that I will always get a bulls eye from now on if I am bitten again. Maybe this will give you some peace of mind.

Thanks so much for the info! I will definitely check out the state lab and the Germantown one! Don't worry guys....I really don't think the tick actually bite me because it did not look embedded when it was on me just looked like it was crawling on me. No rash or remote sign of damage to the skin. However, I took no chances. I swallowed a Doxy immediately and will be on it for at least 28 days!

Anyone know how to make a cat that's obsessed with the outdoors not miserable by keeping her in!? Or a tick repellent that actually works!? It's thanks to my little furball that I have to be on Doxy now for awhile....
