Not to gross anyone out, but since starting abx about a month ago (Ceftin and now Biaxin too) I have been experiencing very foul smelling gas and bowel movements. It is unrelenting and the worst I've ever had. Is this normal? Is it part of the die-off/detox going on? I take probiotics twice a day (2 hours after each abx dose) to repopulate the gut flora.

Could you share with us WHICH probiotic you are taking?

Are you watching your diet... NO sugar, no white foods, no fruit, no artificial sugars, low carb .. etc???

Are you taking Nystatin daily during treatment??

Hi Lymetoo,

I'm taking Custom Probiotics 6 strain powder (250 billion cfu)and sometimes Megafood Megaflora.

I am watching my diet. No refined sugars, no gluten products, no MSG. Lots of greens. Fairly low carb using corn tortillas, rice and mung bean noodles. Fruit once or twice a week (except lemons which are almost daily).

I am taking Diflucan every other day @200mg

Wow... that should do it .. unless perhaps you need to cut out more carbs. (like rice, tortillas and noodles)

My husband got his digestive system back on track by drinking pickle juice.

Seriously.

We have Bubbe's pickles, which are delicious, and they are true pickles - they are fermented and they are a live food. No vinegar added.

He poured himself a small glass of the juice in the bottle, and the next day he said he was "back to normal" after weeks of being "off."

Oh... and to be clear, the bowel movements themselves seem to be fair, it's just the smell that's overwhelming!

I don't think it's either of those. The Mayo Clinic stresses diarrhea and abdominal cramps (neither of which I am experiencing) as major symptoms, and makes no mention of BM or flatulence odor.

Thanks for the suggestions though.
