I just had my picc line placed yesterday and the procedure went smoothly. However when they administered my first dose of Rocephin I broke out in hives and had trouble breathing.
So now I'm pretty disappointed because I know a lot of people have had great improvement on that med. My new concern is now I've been prescribed IV Doxycycline and have read it should not be administered through a picc. Should I be worried or am I just being paranoid from my experience yesterday?

Glad you could find out that you're allergic to Rochephin faster than I did. I had it for 4 months with hives and vomiting. Had real drug allergy tests done after that and yea.. allergic!
I then had IV Doxy for a month. I had no problems except sunburnt face while it was cloudy and snowing.

I am allergic to rocephin but was desensitized over a few weeks. I kept the picc for 9 months and it did help. Now I'm highly allergic to any of the penicillan drugs, even orals.
Mepron is helping me alot now.

I am allergic to doxy, keflex and it seems now all penicillin.
Is it the lyme disease that causes us so many allergic reactions or do many people even without lyme have allergic reactions to various meds but just don't know it because they are healthly and have no need to take them.

I think I would be scared to desensitize in fear of anaphylaxis. The doxy is definitely working though because I am having MAJOR herxing. I've taken it orally 'before but never got a reaction like this.
The PICC line is just making me paranoid about infection because its pretty bruised and there has been a little bleeding. The nurse tells me its normal I'm probably letting my anxiety get the best of me.
Prayerworks good question. I never had any medication or food allergies before lyme now I'm sensitive to everything.

I was "allergic" to Naphcillin in hospital with severe rash. I now realize that what "they" call allergic reaction is often, as later shown in my case, herxing.
I have a very successful Groshan catheter in my chest for IVs.
I was on Rocephan daily for 3 months. Dr added Biaxin due to sinus and breathing problems. Continued severe breathlessness caused him to stop, temporarily I hope, Rocephan. I have been much more alert, reading philosophy books for 1st time in 20 yrs. And drawing and painting 1st time, too.
sometimes I think we just need a break to allow our bodies to recover and to keep drug effective.
now in my husband's case, he has had spectacular results with Mepron/Ketek protocol. His pain meds are gone, feet far less numb, he walks at a fast clip without stumbling, works 10 hrs. Without a nap on most days. He probably does only have Babesia and possibly Bartonella...no Lyme
