I was diagnosed with positive ELISA 3 days ago (western blot pending). High Positive IGM. I have neuro symptoms including body-wide muscle spasms and minimal neuropathy in my feet.

I acted quickly, as soon as symptoms of neuro started showing up, and was put on 400mg doxycycline daily by the local urgent care, until my appointment tomorrow.

I need to know what to request from the doctor.

All my reading has lead me to the following recommendation. Do you agree?

Lyme infection greater than 6 months with central nervous system symptoms:

30 days IV Antibiotic - Ceftriaxone 2grams daily
30-60 days Doxycycline 400mg daily

Is that correct for first approach antibiotics with neuro symptoms?

Requesting IV abx from a doctor is most likely not going to happen. All probability you are going to be seeing a non lyme literate doctor and you will be lucky to get them to agree to doxy for 30-60 days. Set that goal though.

You really need to use this doctor until you can get an appt with a LLMD (lyme literate medical doctor) and that will take a couple months or so to get an appt.

Please post in Seeking a Doctor forum for Miami area LLMD.

Wow... first I've heard of a doctor prescribing 400mg daily of doxy without his being an LLMD or being PUSHED into it!! Lucky you!!
[Smile]

I seriously doubt you would get a month of IV unless perhaps from a sympathetic (rare) ID doctor or an LLMD.

If it were me, I WOULD want 200mg twice daily of doxy for minimum of 6-8 wks... I doubt that would cure it though, so I'd really want to be treated until I were without symptoms for at least 2 months.

Sorry i lied. The urgent care doctor put me on 200mg daily, but I educated myself (which they hate) and upped it to 400 since I have neuro symptoms. Thank God for pubmed.com .... i just didnt feel like explaining all that. lol ...

Thanks all. I will let you know what happens tomorrow. My guess is that he will tell me doxy 400 is sufficient for neuro, and when i raise the issue of blood brain barrier and bacterial infestation in brain tissue, he will ignore/reject/whatever me in response.

Can you tell ive dealt with doctors before?

I also need diflucan. I get bad yeast infections/overgrowth from antibiotics.

I see him saying "no" to that.

My AST levels were high prior to all of the antibiotics, so I am a bit concerned what the next 90 days is going to do to my liver [Frown]

Are you taking something for liver support? Like Milk Thistle?

Some balk at diflucan rx. A really good high dose of probiotics is recommended.

I'm almost positive you are coming home from a doctor appt today mad. Odds are. I also get the feeling you'll put up a good fight. I hope you get your 400mg for as long as sx are there for now.

ask for VSL #3 PS, script, probiotics and order Florastor from Amazon.. If you click on Amazon from this site ,they get small % back to help .

Not sure if it was TF/Six/Tutu,,or who ,but they got high dose Amocxy sp? instead....with an other ABX

To bad liver is up. before I knew what I had , Doc put me on 150 Rifampin (and no they are not all red) and Doxy.

.That really kicked in, then he wanted IV and the ID doctors got involved and messed the whole thing up...
