I started on Zithromaz and Mepron about a month ago. I felt much worse than normal from day 3-7 of taking drugs with headache, ache and fatigued, then felt much better by day 7. Feels like brain fog is lifted, the constant muscle ache/fatigue feeling is much better, energy levels up plus joints don't hurt like they do.

I was treated on various oral antibiotics (not Mepron) in 2010 for Lyme for 7 months and just started seeing another Lyme specialist after chasing an answers with many main stream physicians many who teach at Harvard. No answers other than chronic fatigue (really I was training for Ironman triathlons), hyper flexible joints, but for sure not Lyme.

After reading many threads seems that quick a response to Mepron is unusual.

I have a MRI showing a few scattered white matter T2 hyperintensities plus thickening of ethmoid air cell mucoperiosteal
My spec scan showed 3 lobs only on left side of my brain with mild flow issues

CD 57 was 45
Tested positive IGM band 23 only
Blood tests done from Quest

Exposed to many ticks growing up and spending summers in forest since 1964 in MN; lived in MA, CT and MN; bite many times as a kid over 25 times ore more; 2010 bit my deer tick and found another and things went down hill from then.

2 months after tick bite doing knee scope had very strange looking and angry synovium which Ortho surgeon friend who did surgery had seen 2 other times in 10K knee scope. Lyme doc I saw them said no way synovium would look that way if I had Lyme for 2 months..he thought bite reactivated Lyme

Symptoms:
hard time sleeping
fatigue
Muscle fatigue
joints effected...first one knee, then shoulder, then other knee then more recently both hips
Went from exercising 10-15 hours a week to none due to lack of energy and joint pain.
Word recall issues or mixed up words
Rapidly declining knee cartilage and had second surgery to realign my leg late 2010 with slow recovery with the joint

Add in both my parents have passed away in last 6 months

Questions:
Mepron response so quick is that typical and does it mean anything?
Starting IV antibiotics Thursday with picc.
Any idea how to know how long I've been infected? Could tick bite in 2010 flared it up?
Does stress of big surgery and dying parents add to flare ups?
Spec scan only on one side of my brain could that be from something else like bike crash I had in 2007 going head first into metal street sign

I'm glad to have found you all again but sad I am where I am. I feel my life has been stolen from me and I've betrayed by medical profession and likely going to be screwed by my insurance company. They have paid for all the tests, and doctors visits with no answers and now want to limit my treatment to 28 days of IV therapy. I could pay for years of IV therapy for all the money they paid for no answers.

The loss of my father triggered my cascade of symptoms. Losing both plus a surgery would be a pretty sure catalyst in my book.Best wishes to you.

Hi trimom:

First on the Western Blot. It indicates exposure to the Lyme spirochete (as to when this occured who really knows).

When our daugher first started Mepron and Zithromax, for Babs, she became worse (herxing but also Lyme progressing) and it was 6 to 8 weeks before we started to slowly see benefits against the fevers & night sweats. We were still in the mode of not knowing if we were doing the right thing.

Our daughers LLMD indicated in his experience it was a minimun of 8 months for babs treatment.

Its amazing there is a controversy to this insidious disease and Ive found it easiest to show a couple of u tube videos on the controversy.

If you watch this video you can see some of the miss diagnosis.

This is our Lyme doctor. It took us 8+ months, 9 MDs, 2 Childrens Hospitals before we started to learn about the controversy and find him.

http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2011/apr/05/amid-medical-controversy-children-saved/

He is a saint and I show this to help illustrate how MDs have been prosecuted so normal MDs shy away from doing anything but following the flawed IDSA guidelines.

It's very hard to know how long anyone has been infected. I would go by history of bites and symptoms.

Quick response to mepron means you definitely have babesia. Several of your symptoms point to it.

I had a very quick response to Mepron. It did not take weeks to build up in my system before I began herxing.

I would herx within days of taking it. I think it depends on how infected you are and how your body reacts to the meds.

Had many of the same ex. you have. My LLMD feels I have had untreated Babs for close to 10 years and it went wildly out of control after my surgery and post op steroids.

Big connection between stress and our immune system.

Hope you are hanging in there....
