Hey Everyone,

Considering insurance companies don't cover antibiotics for Lyme disease, how much, ballpark, does it cost to do a year long regimen of antibiotics. If you could take into consideration that you need 3 types of antibiotics: one for spirochete, one for L-form, and one for cystic stages that would be helpful.

Cheers

Most insurance companies do cover antibiotics. When you are given an rx for oral antibiotics there is no way the ins knows what is being treated. It would be just like bringing any rx to the pharmacy. If your prescriptions are normally covered with a copay etc then they should be covered for this as well.

I have BCBS and all my oral meds were covered with a standard copy along with my bicillin injections.

When it gets to be difficult is when you get into IV meds.

In addition to IV meds, the cost of mepron is very expensive.

Mepron is expensive if your insurance does not cover it. I just pay a $15 copay with mine. My other abx are $5. Because there is not a generic for mepron or bicillin the copya is higher.

A lot depends on your insurance. We pay 20% of contracted priceso a drug that comes in generic and out of patent is less. Mepron is $345/month under our plan.

IV antibiotics they will pay 28 days then out of pocket or appeal.
