Okay, I have read this, just figured I would ask and see what anyone had to say.
I in no way shape or form want to poison my son.
Will try to wrangle more that 2 capsules of Doxy out of our pediatrician! Wish me luck!
Thanks Lymetoo!

I second the NOOO. I believe you can by the same quality doxy at a pet store. Maybe others will come along with more info.
Put sea salt in his food and or give him some in a glass of water. It kills borrelia and parasites.
Visit Lymestrategies for more info on salt/c.

My doc said never ever take any of the tetracyclines or aspirin (poisonous and leads to kidney failure).

I am in luck. I got the nurse at my sons pediatrician right before they closed.
She said to call in the morning and the doctor who will be on-call has been so inundated with Lyme disease that he will prescribe whatever I need.
I have given him two doses of Omnicef which I have but will feel better with Doxy.
3 in our family with Lyme and Co. is enough!!!! Thanks all!!!

I asked this before I think. My doxy was almost a year old so I called the pharmacist.
He told me that those drugs, particularly doxy, break down after a time and become toxic. He said if it was maybe a month or so, yes you can still take it, but a year or so, absolutely not.
So now if I have old meds, I just get rid of them. And I make sure that doctors prescribe something I can take so as not to get prescriptions I can't use.

How old is your son? Kids 8 or below (or is it just below?) can't take doxy, because it harms their teeth. If he's younger, he needs amoxicillin instead. If you need the dosage for his age/weight, check the sticky on the top of the forum for Dr. B's guidelines.

I knew it was too good to be true. The pediatrician prescribed two Doxy capsules to be taken as a single dose.
They only give ten days worth for a bullseye!
This is beyond comprehension.....

You need a MINIMUM of 4 weeks (28 days) BEYOND any sign of Lyme... that is, any remaining rash or symptoms (not due to the abx).
THIS IS CRUCIAL if you want your child to *stay* Lyme-free.
If they won't give you a, say, 30-day script for liquid "amoxy" (in suspension) for your young child, you need to find a doc who *will* prescribe that. That's my opinion.
Oh... & I "third" Lymetoo. Old doxycycline can/ does breakdown into other compounds, 1 of which is not-so-good for ya. ;-)
