Some years ago, I had some spots on my skin frozen off by dermatologist who said I should keep checking, maybe more will need it in future.

I have not been out in the sun in years, no sunbathing, etc.

So, last week I went to a derm with some small suspicious black spots, which were deemed not significant, and some larger brown spots that just looked like freckles oversized. I have had such spots come and go in the past with doxy treatment, but am not on doxy or any cycline now. Doxy does cause hyperpigmentation in the skin.

Derm PA biopsied one of these brown spots which didn't look any different to me. Called me to say it was melanoma which needed to be removed. Not deep, they said.

I am not sure if this needs a second opinion or not. They send these biopsies to a specialist derm pathology place in the biggest city in the state. I am in a smaller city.

The thing is that the spot looks not different to me from other brown spots, that are flat, and just like very big freckles. I am worried that this might not be the only one.

And I didn't show them a bigger red place on my leg which I have had a long time and it has gotten bigger, and I associate with derm lyme, have seen descriptions of just such things in the medical literature. But maybe it isn't, and it is very unlikely that anyone in this state will know what derm manifestations of lyme are like.

Just wish I had confidence in the dermatology people.

If I have this one taken off, maybe there are others, and I figure lyme is going to kill me before cancer does.

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis.. I have had basal cell carcinoma in the past. I suspect i got it becasuse of the 55 xrays(CTs included) over the 10 years trying to get a diagnosis. I just wanted to share that marijuana oil has been used to treat skin cancer and has been successful.. It ismeant to be applied topically.

Thanks for the information. A quick google says marijuana oil for squamous and basal cell. Doesn't mention melanoma. I don't know what makes these types different from each other. Have heard of vitamin c solution on basal cell also.

Basal and squamous cell are a rather benign skin cancer. Melanoma, however, can be deadly. Melanoma will spread outside the skin and cause tumors elsewhere. It's very important to get your melanoma taken care of.

Melanoma has recently been shown to not be associated with sun exposure (this is almost as controversial as Lyme). But it is associated with low vitamin D levels. You might want to have your D levels checked, too.

But go get that taken care of. It can become very serious. And your doctor may want to biopsy more of those spots.

I'm currently using Curaderm (recommended by Dr. Oz and Dr. Mercola) on a basal cell carcinoma, but it, too, it used for squamous and basal, but not melanoma. Melanoma is a whole different beast.

I wouldn't wait around getting a second opinion; you really need to have these removed.

Melanoma is very aggressive and can be deadly.

Melanoma is not something to fool around with. You need to go get this removed asap and have your other areas checked as well. To say that lyme will kill you before cancer does, there is just no way to know that. Melanoma can be fast moving and deadly.

my sister had this on her face. hers was so large it took 17 stitches and was very deep. deeper than they expected. so it scarred.

now she takes extra precautions.

hasn't had any problems since.

and linky is right. don't mess around, get it taken care of asap before it spreads. this kind can kill.

Melanoma is a dangerous type of skin cancer. It is important to have it removed as soon as possible. When caught and treated early it is much, much better for you. Please, get in for an appointment to have it removed right away.

Both of my parents were melanoma survivors and lived full, productive lives beyond their diagnoses and treatment.

Talk to the oncologist and surgeon about your best possible surgery options.

Best wishes for your health.

If your derm is saying it's melanoma, it's likely melanoma. If you feel you need a second opinion and to get more spots checked, then do so ASAP. Melanoma is not something you can delay getting treated.

My husband had one at 34 yrs old. The melanoma just looked like a light-colored freckle that had gotten bigger in size.

Very sorry to hear this, poppy!! I hope you get the information you need on this. Do not hesitate!

I guess I'd better go get some dark spots checked out. Mine are flat too.

Keep us posted, OK?
