I've simply been stimulating the acupuncture points myself...Of course my (most of our) issues aren't post-operative, but caused by Lyme -- doesn't seem to matter...

Thanks for posting this very interesting article!
Now that I can tolerate some acupuncture again, I might try this myself...I sure could use some help with my sluggish stomach, and I used to get good help with my stomach from acupuncture a long time ago.

Razzle, I'm so glad you dropped by!
Just stick your thumb in ST36 and start rubbing when you're having stomach issues. My stomach started to move (gurgle) soon after I started doing this.
I've started using those acupuncture adhesive plasters with magnets -- one on each point -- relief!
Also, see whether you can get a copy of Richard K. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution -- there is a chapter on gastroparesis -- very helpful.
Best,

I just keep pressing down hard on the spot until I experience relief; I leave the magnets on until they start irritating me. I'll point out I'm not an Acupuncturist; simply someone trying to stop the suffering...

My acupuncture doctor taught me to do acupressure on some points on my abdomen "3 x daily" as home work to help treat my gi symptoms.
There are 4 main points, each is about two finger widths away from the belly button. One is above, below, and to each side.
If you are doing the above the belly button point place one finger there and another finger 2 widths above that one. To do the acupressure you press down deep with both fingers and kinda massage, make small fast circle movements to the right for 60 seconds then repeat making the circle movements to the left.
Since this requires 2 fingers at a time, I usually go ahead and do both Right and Left side at the same time (or top and bottom, you get the idea).
This way my fingers still get tired but the whole practice takes less time to complete.
I'm supposed to do this every night before I go to bed. This is probably the one time of the day when I really notice that it has an immediate effect. Often my abdomen will be distended and uncomfortable. This helps!
My doc also gave me sinus congestion points that work to clear you up immediately!
My explaining may not give it justice but acupuncture can be very helpful.
