I'm having a flare of UC (or the crohn's that one doctor said I had, but the next saw no evidence of) this is the first flare I have had in 7 years.
I am taking an abx break...but this started before I stopped and it is too soon for lyme symptoms cropping up again-- only a week. And it is because of this, to give my gut a break, that I am taking a break.
anyone have UC or Crohn's with Lyme? Have you had flares from abx?
anything to help you feel better quickly?

What about babs??? I've had my share of GI issues from Babs treatment.

gmb may be right. One LLMD told me that Alinia was effective for Crohn's.

I'm pretty sure some of my GI issues were babs related, either flares or from die-off.
Some issues were cyclical, others have improved or gone away with no changes in ABX regimen.
It's pretty difficult to really know what is Babs, Lyme, yeast or ABX related.

I have done a lot of personal research of Crohns because I have the disease.
Here are a list of pathogens that I know are involved with the disease. There may very well be others also.

well... I was gonna take an abx break-- but back on flagyl and cipro today. funny how that until I get depressed from flagyl(after months, I began to get depressed every pulse) and pained from cipro (after months) -- I feel better than on anything else. one dose and I feel so much better... hmmmmmm....
haven't been on cipro since may and flagyl since august-- so maybe I will feel good for thanksgiving and not get depressed.
Ellen, that is great info on rifaximin. the hospital's site my GI Dr works at also mentions it as a newer treatment for crohn's/colitis. I had such a bad reaction to rifampin though in the same family, I am a bit scared of it...

I have to be quick today, sorry.
Was recently diagnosed with UC. I feel MUCH better with levaquin , terrible gi pain and overall worsening of my symptoms when I stop it.
Now that I have UC I wonder if it is all so much a response to the infections or now more a mixed picture. When I saw my gi doc and told him about the lev, he said that it must ge a sign that I need I so, ok
Hope you feel better soon. I'm to new to give any real advice all I have right now is diagnosis, no plan of treatment yet or anything. So I may end up asking more questions later!

sammy, sorry you got the dx. but that is how I feel about all abx... besides the week of herx, if I feel better I know I must need it. if I feel worse... it just feels toxic. cipro is in the same family as levoquin and they use it a lot for gut issues. good luck

My gut responds well to flagyl, too, and I was erroneously dx with Crohn's at one point (initially, symptoms were actually caused by a parasitic infection that was treated with flagyl).
Lyme/coinfections can mimic Crohn's or UC very easily, and I don't know how well most GI doctors can tell the difference...

Any chance this could be c-diff without a fever? Or does c-diff always have a fever.
