My 16 year old has chronic sinus drainage at night. we're making the rounds to pediatrician, gastroenterologist, allergist and ENT. He's taking claritin now so his stomach doesn't have the constant irritation from the mucus and he stopped vomiting, but now he's developed a chest cough.
The allergy tests show nothing. We've scoured his bedroom, removed all rugs, books and stuff, washed bedding and curtains and yet he still is getting worse.
There's no fever but he's lethargic and lacks stamina. He even quit varsity basketball because he has no energy.
Could this be lyme? His tests have been negative. Has anyone treated sinus problems with success?

I don't know about the Lyme but it sounds like one possibility is a chronic sinus infection. Here are some things to try:
- Afrin - but do it under an allergist or ENT's guidance and you can't stay on it too long; - Nasal irrigation with distilled water; - nasal sprays - a steroid one will shrink swelling, and an antihistamine (I know some on here will say not to take a steroid nasal spray, my LLMD is fine with it) - Sudafed - the kind they keep behind the pharmacy counter - strong antibiotics. I have had my share of ABX for sinus infections and the one that worked best was Avelox, but they usually start with a milder one first. - Prednisone - but NOT, let me repeat NOT, if you even suspect Lyme. -encase mattress and box spring in an allergen cover, and replace bedding with hypo-allergenic comforters. - has he had a CT scan of his sinuses?

Mold.
Neti-pot with sterile warm water 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1 teaspoon xylitol
Get out and take nothing with you. Anything you take could have mold on it and keep you ill. We didn't even take shoes. Take flip flops because they can be washed. Buy new.
Clothes can be washed in 1-2 cups of ammonia at a laundromat.
Try this clean break for 1-2 weeks and see where your health is, my whole family improved (we were all sick) and we knew we had done the right thing. Once you are out, you can figure out what to do about the stuff you left behind.

Nasal irrigation twice per day (with squirt bottle) using distilled water with saline packet and one drop of grapefruit seed extract in the water.
The GSE will kill any mold or fungal infection in there.
This is the recommendation by my lyme doctor and the homeopath he recommends.
Astepro is a great nasal spray antihistamine. It requires a prescription which the ENT should give readily. Do it twice per day after nasal irrigation.
It sounds like a sinus infection to me. I had one for 6 months before the ENT was able to get anything to show on a culture. It took 4 more months to get it to clear up because it was MRSA.
My CT scans were always clear, cultures were always negative, etc. but I knew exactly where it was. Antibiotics helped but never got rid of it. Then, once it showed up on a culture, we were able to go after it with antibiotics that were effective against it.
In my case, I had 3 bad infections. I definitely was lethargic and lacked stamina. I had no life! (And, I have been rid of lyme for years.)
The above should help.

Accupunture may help. When I went for treatments for my back and hip pain I had som much drainage in the back of my throat that I began coughing during and after the treatment.
When I asked the accupuncturist why she said evidently my sinuses were full.

I've noticed that chronic sinus problems are very common in people who also have Lyme symptoms.
A chronic infection like Lyme causes the immune system to make more fibrin in the blood. This makes the blood, and also the mucous, "thicker."
You can take systemic enzymes to reduce fibrin. There is a study that shows that Serrapeptase clears up sinus infections. When the amount of fibrin is reduced, the mucous drains better, and the sinus infection clears up.
Systemic enzymes do alot to reduce Lyme symptoms. Many LLMD's tell patients to take them, as they reduce biofilm and help antibiotics to work better.
With a large enough dose, I found that systemic enzymes reduce pain. I used to get awful sinus infections every year, but have not had any since I began Wobenzym seven years ago.
Google for serrapeptase sinus.

No, I am not saying MRSA is fungal. It is a bacteria.
I am saying that I was advised to add GSE to my nasal irrigation because this way you will also kill any fungus that may try to cause a problem.
This makes a lot of sense to me because I am allergic to mold, and this time of year there is a lot of leaf mold out there. So, this is the time of year my sinuses bother me and I have to take allergy meds for the mold allergy.
I will be putting the GSE in my nasal irrigation until at least January to be sure that no fungal infection will occur in my sinuses. I am out blowing and raking leaves this time of year. I am even wearing a paper face mask when I do it. This is helping me a lot.

I cut out the rest, only because this is something I have noticed too... but I come to different conclusions.
I believe that a large reason why people are not getting well from Lyme and other chronic illnesses is because of fungal infections. That was the case in my son's and my illnesses. We both had confirmed cases of Lyme, Bartonella, mycoplasma and many other infections... but when we found the mold and the metals and treated those... we could then recover from Lyme and Co's.

We started my son on amoxycillan yesterday and he already feels better. He had a CAT scan today. Still need to find out why he has chronic post nasal drip.
