Hi everyone..I was wondering if anyone else who had a PICC line had a difficult time with intimacy as a result. The line itself is uncomfortable a bit (well annoying might be a better designation) but it's also psychologically difficult to engage in intimacy I find with this line in. It is frustrating to say the least.
Anyone else go through this? Did you start to feel comfortable after awhile with the line, or did your love lives suffer during the duration of your IV treatment? Thanks. Jess.

I recommend discussing it with your partner. He can help you with the psychological aspect of this issue.
A heating pad on the PICC afterwords can help with the physical discomfort.

Thanks Razzle..he was very sweet about it, wants me to take things at my own pace with it. It's just difficult because we are usually frequently intimate and it has taken a nosedive since I have gotten the picc, mainly due to my own concerns and psychological adjustments with the IV.

skies, I am 31 too...no my sex drive hasn't diminished greatly with being sick. Certainly at times when I am incredibly ill I cannot engage in sexual activity, but I find that being sexually active is one of the few things that helps me feel better at times. Jess.

It was definitely a bigger deal for me than it was for him. So I definitely second talking with your partner about it.
I was actually worried that it would weird him out, and he wouldn't want to. It turned out that he wasn't bothered by it in the slightest. I used to be pretty particular about keeping it covered all of the time, now I just don't care as much as I used to (have been on a PICC 4 separate times now.)
As far as physically, keeping it wound up under one of those surgical netting socks keeps everything out of the way, an mine doesn't really ever hurt after a few days of it being in.

Lady-yes my current partner is an ex of mine and he doesn't care at all about the picc...all of the discomfort and feeling weird about it is on my end.
Yes I use the surgical netting socks myself...it does help me feel less self conscious slightly. Thanks. Jess.

just get freaky, who cares, sex is like the only time you can truly feel good for a short period of time, plus coming from a guys perspective we wouldnt care if you only had one leg we still love it, were guys, guaranteed the picc line is the last thing hes thinkin about, take care happy turkey day!!!

- To support your body, ADRENAL SUPPORT is a good idea, though.
As with any activity, we have to support our adrenal system so it can handle activity without payback (or too much payback, anyway).
