Hi everyone...I have been dealing with major neuro symptoms and gastro issues as well.. I am also on TPN, as anyone who reads my posts knows by now. I have gained a few lbs on the TPN and that is great . In the past week especially however, I am dealing with exhaustion like I never have before. I am able to get up and walk and move around but the effort that it takes is incredible.
The exhaustion is accompanied by some arm and leg weakness ... My best friend thinks this is my body just being overwhelmed by all the stress that its been under. I suppose that is a possibility, but it is just frustrating. I feel like getting iv nutrition should be making me feel stronger though, not weaker. This concerns me a bit.
I take b12 and B complex vitamins...Does anyone know of any other tips to get my energy back at least somewhat? Thanks. Jess.

I just started CoQ10 and that seems to help me a little for energy. Ginseng and green tea help me also but usually if I'm really tired, I just have to take a break and try to sleep it off.
I noticed with me I also get very severely weak and exhausted the more I eat and am unbearably weak right after I wake up. It takes me hours to get going.
I'm glad that the TPN is helping you gain back some weight.

Razzle-I am wondering about refeeding syndrome too...Did you experience it? I KNOW that it is also partially a symptom flare, as I am off all meds.
It is amazing how much hell my body has been through. I am not saying it as a woe-is-me thing, it actually is more with a kind of humble awe. The human body can take a damn beating and keep going. Jess.

It could be muscle atrophy. If you aren't doing any strengthening exercising, muscles just naturally weaken even without all the other health problems.
When I saw a chronic fatigue specialist, the first thing he wanted me to do was do light exercise with those plastic bands. He wanted me to start building muscle strength.

Hi Judie-I exercise somewhat in the sense that I power walk several days a week but I haven't done any strength training in a long time. I appreciate the suggestion. Jess.

Yes, I did. There were times when I was really exhausted from the weight increase. I also had gut pain and apatite strangeness (I'd get hungry in the middle of the night and wouldn't be hungry in the daytime) when first adjusting to TPN and then again when adjusting to real food again.

Razzle-yes I think that might be what is happening to me. It is taking me literally upwards of an hour just to get out of bed in the AM. Ironically, I had more energy when I wasn't taking any nutrients in. UGH I am so over this...thanks. Jess.
