Boy, my mood has been up and down lately. I am full of anxiety and major depression which are both becoming red flag herx symptoms over the past few months. It gets a little better on days that I do a B-12 shot although it would seem as if that's coincidental to me.
Today I didn't do a shot and sure enough I'm completely on edge. I've been crying from depression all day and extremely upset about how my life is going.........
I'm also on a lot of meds so some of it is definitely herxing or side effects. The newest ones I'm taking are mino and flagyl. However, could the B12 be covering up some of the psychological herxing or side effects? I only do a small amount 1mg per day of methylcobalamin.
I wouldn't think there would be any difference if I skipped some doses, but I am significantly more psychologically and emotionally unstable on days that I don't do it. I've tried skipping it a few times and it seems a lot worse on those days. Any theories as to why that would be? I don't think there is any way I could become deficient from skipping a dose since I've done several shots over the past few weeks.

Flagyl causes depression in many patients. You may have to titer up the dosage. Flagyl stays in your system for days. My doc only pulses Flagyl 2 days a week because he says it lowers vitamin B levels.
Doxy causes can cause depression, too. Mino is related, so who knows?

Summer. I'm the same. Much better on the days I do the shot. Have never been able to figure that out.

Do you know if you have an MTHFR mutation? B12 is one of the recommended supplements for people who have it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know if I have the MTHFR mutation, but I do react very positively to glutathione IV's. Methylcobalamin also seems to help somewhat especially with anxiety/depression which leads me to believe I may have MTHFR.
I've been getting depressed for many months even before starting Flagyl. At first I thought it was just the reality of my situation. Then it got worse when I started herxing from Ceftin so I went off that one and substituted minocycline, but that didn't help. I think my psychological symptoms are definitely herx-related since it doesn't seem to matter which medication I'm on.
It's pretty difficult to deal with though. I've never had anxiety and depression like this in my life. I'm not on a super high dose of Flagyl either. I can't wait to raise that one.............

Yes, Vitamin B Complex, and Vitamin B12 can improve depression and anxiety. These supplements are needed for proper nerve and neurotransmitter activity.

Flagyl caused AWFUL depression for me. Really bad.
And B12 definitely makes a difference in my mood. Definitely.

Are you on Mepron? I had to go off of it due to depression symptoms. They lifted within two days of going off it.
Have you called your doctor? Depression is a serious symptom and they would want to know.

I'm not on Mepron. I haven't called my doctor either because it's a holiday and the depression literally comes and goes (although lately it's lingering just fluctuating in severity).
From what I've read on a Flagyl article on this website yesterday, I'm right at the point in Flagyl treatment where the depression starts (about the 3rd week).
