Hi everyone...I have had the flu for 2 days and I just weighed myself and I am down 4 pounds?! Is this probably just temporary water loss? I am able to keep down food today, which I could not do yesterday. My fever has also broken, so that is good.
Does a 4 lb loss in 2 days seem dangerous, or should I not freak out too much? This really upsets me..I cannot deal with losing any more weight... its so upsetting. Jess.

I've lost 10-15 lbs with the flu, but then probably had more to lose (not overweight but more ideal weight). So, I'd say, it's not surprising, could've been worse, sounds like the worst is over. Only question is how quickly you'll gain it back.
Sounds like a setback but doesn't sound dangerous, particularly given the fever is broken and you're getting food down. (Only caveat would be, has your doctor said that losing 4 lbs from where you were would be dangerous? If they warned of that, obviously you want to be in contact about that.)

Thanks Michael..my dr is kind of an alarmist who makes "you could die" comments and so I REALLY do not wanna call him right now and deal with those comments, esp when I am feeling so anxious over this to begin with.
I appreciate yr feedback so much. I am just frustrated because now I am 83 lbs again. Hopefully the weight will come back relatively quickly...I think much of the loss was from just the sheer amount of upper and lower gi stuff I had going on the past few days, but I hate being so frail. Thanks again . Jess

Thanks daynise!! My fiance caught it from his uncle who caught it from his son in law haha...its like a game of telephone. I am slowly trying to recover...its def made my nausea and stomach stuff a lot worse. My fiance and I are kind of hunkered down in our pajamas, cuddling and watching lots of TV. Thanks again. Jess

I know you really wanted to stop your TPN , but situations like this is why it may have been better to give yourself some more time to put on some extra weight. Between illnesses, stress, herxing etc you are bound to lose weight.

Jess, I agree with Ellen. Could you resume the TPN at least on a limited basis?

Ellen and Beaches-I really do not wanna go back on the TPN. I just hate it so much. I know I sound like a stubborn child, but I just hate it more than I can ever properly express. I am going to do everything I can to avoid it. Thank you so much. Jess

You were on it sooo many hours/day previously.
If you could be on it 1-2 hours/day a few days a week it could help you. It sure wouldn't hurt. Pls explore the options.
And yes, <clearing throat> you do sound like a very stubborn child if I do say so!
But seriously, please check into resuming the TPN on a limited basis.

Sometimes stubbornness is the only thing that keeps us going. I remember clearly saying, "I'm not going to lie down and let this disease rob me of my life."
"I will take up my bed and walk, damit!!!
Sometimes that's all we have. Most people have no idea what severe fatigue is and sometimes I feel like choking them. Of course I wouldn't.
My husband used to say, "Just go for a little walk and it will get your energy up." Are you kidding me, Really????
I just laugh about that now, but at the time it was no joke.

Oh yes Heather. For sure, stubbornness is a good thing and oftentimes all we have, whether it's for us or our children. I am guilty of that myself and I don't regret it for a minute.
Hope your hubby has found some enlightenment!?
