I've a strange day. Woke up with sore spots on the top of my head, not open sores, not bumps, just tender spots.
Legs have small bumps, no color, just small pumps like something is just under the skin - spread over the thighs, front and back.
Felt kind of out of it all day at work - not normal for me.
then . . . on the drive home (20 mins) - my legs began paining so bad that I couldn't even stop, get out of the truck, to pump gas. Pain - like my legs from my hips to bottom of feet were going to explode. Like I had run a 10 mile race. Mostly in calves and feet, including the soles.
what is this???? Just hitting the end of 1st week of meds (Doxy, Flagyl and Diflucon)
Someone please explain this to a newbie here . . .
After re-reading before posting this, also noticed that I had used alot of wrong words - almost like an autocorrect was on, but it was my typing. I'm a writer and typist at my job - this is not good either!!!!

Treat bartonella. You have it. That's what you are describing to the tee. Rifampin and or levaquin. Doxy and Flagyl is great for lyme and Ehrlich..not so much bart. I had this exact problem to the point I couldn't walk and began to atrophy bad after 2 years of dealing with it. I never tested positive. Now I'm treating it, it's FINALLY going away.
Someone else might be able to chime in on herbals for bart or Byron White that you may be able to add.
Are you seeing an LLMD? Seems like a very broad protocol, unless you only have lyme and no co infections.

thank you for your response. I was just diagnosed with LD last week, just started the meds. Yes, I am seeing a LLMD. He ran blood work last week searching for cos etc.
In the minimal research that I have been conducting for myself over the last 3 wks, I have Bartonella on my list of things to discuss with the dr.
Today, most of the pain has left my legs and seems to have settled in the right side of my body = chest, ribs, and throat area.
Thank you again for your quick response.

Boy have I been where you are. I had spots on my head that hurt like someone whacked me in the head.
I have the bumps under the skin on my legs like you do and yes I have Bart. Bone breaking pain intermittently in my lower legs. Hips pain makes you want to cry.
This takes time to get better but it will. In a years time, things are much better. Still herx and hurt but not all the time.
Hang in there. Having a good LLMD helps.

but if hes feeling this with meds hes on...it could be herx...it could be hitting something or helping immune system enough he is fighting bart himself
it sounds like the doc that is txing you knows something...it bothers me when newbies want relief immediatly and dont give their llmds a chance to work thru protocols in a way that will cover everyting
call you doc and describe what is happeneing but i wouldnt pressure for different meds yet-something is happeneing
it does sound like bart...but protocol is to start with doxy for a reason. after 2 weeks you will know you are not dealing with erlich...there are reasons...it takes time. the beginnng is worse.
i lost work time when i first started tx...and had to break up my horse farm. i had lived with horses for over 50 yrs...i didnt think i could do that...but i had to. good luck.

so again today, same leg and feet pains, into the hips and now the crotch. Yesterday it hit around 4pm, today it became unbearable around 1pm. Went home from work once it became unbearable. Once it hit the crotch area, it's become very painful to sit. (I stood through an entire meeting today just because I hurt.)
Also noticed it seems to have hit my bladder or bladder muscles - constant feeling of having to urinate - this is not pleasant - like every 1/2 hr.
lpkayak - I don't want new meds yet, if this is what my body is suppose to be doing to get rid of this stuff. I just want to know if its "normal", what I can do to releive it - a warm bath seemed to help somewhat last night.
I've been reading about Herx, just haven't quite figured it out - I too was wondering if that's possibly what I'm going through. I wasn't sure if one would start seeing this type of thing after only being on meds 1 wk.
As a newbie, I have lots to learn, and I do read each of your responses, and search through this forum for information all the time. Sometimes it just feels good to know others know what you're talking about and have been there before to help us.

Made a strange discovery today regarding the pains I described above, legs, hips, soles of feel and especially the crotch/frequent and painful urination issue. The pain is horrible!!!
Yesterday - pain from 4pm until about 8pm Today - pain from 11pm until about 5 pm.
I was on 3rd and 4th day of Doxy and 1 Diflucan on that 3rd day. Took Doxy around 8-9am both days. Is this significant to the issue?
I stop Doxy for 3 days and switch to Flagyl - I'll see if I notice this again when back on Doxy next week. I might be onto something here - or totally off base and losing my mind . . .
What would cause this and why would it only last for a short time like this??? This is crazy!!! My curiosity is peaked now . . .

What are you doing for detox?
You just started the meds, the first ones, sounds like you are herxing pretty good.
If you need ideas there are a lot on the board... Like adding Epsom salts to the warm bath you took, etc.

Surprise - so you think this is what they call herxing? If it is, I would feel better just knowing what it is and knowing to expect it and that it will go away eventually.
this all so new to me and scary.
At this moment we haven't started detoxing - dr told me not to add anything to my regime yet. I told him I want to hit parasites, he liked the idea and told me to bring him information on what I think works best for me and we'll discuss it!!!
I'll try the Epsom Salt bath!!

I am not a Dr., of course, but yes, I read this, your timeline, new dx, etc. as
Herxing.
I assume you are on probiotics, liver support like milk thistle, taking care of yourself (adequate sleep, etc.)
Hang in there!

Yes, I'm on probiotics. Have not started any additional support supplements yet - my next dr appt is in a few weeks - we will discuss this issue then - althought I may call his office an leave a message with my issues and see if he'll let me start something sooner.
I think my astonishment is with how quickly Herxing started. I'm hoping this is a good sign.
Going to do some research on herxing now.
thank you!
