My 10 yr old daughter who has been in treatment for Lyme and co-infections for two years has pretty much refused to take her meds lately. She is on only herbals and supplements at this point, as we are weaned off of antibiotics to see what happens. She cannot swallow pills and is done, done, done with mixing and swallowing chalky powders. One of her big issues is nutrition, vitamins and minerals. What is a parent to do? I have begged, bribed, threatened, etc. It is a power struggle now and I don't know what to do. I feel like a complete failure. BTW, I have Lyme and so does her sibling so I do get it on how burnt out she feels on the meds and food restrictions. Any advice welcome!

L.

Hi L,

Things that we do: We make it a bit of a game, we call it sarcastically "small cups, fun times" We have different sets of little shot glasses, sake classes and tea cups to keep it interesting.

We buy different fruit juices to mix stuff into and have found that Happy Planet Banana Mango covers up yucky tastes best for us.

Can she eat stevia? Sometimes I add a drop to make it extra sweet.

With my littlest guy, who doesn't have lyme, but I'm sure has been exposed to parasites I make "diatomaceous earth fudge" (sugar free). My older son says you can't taste the DE at all.

I can send you the recipe if you think you could mix any of her stuff that way.

The other thing is that we talk about how the lyme can control your thoughts and that IT is most likely causing the treatment refusal. We talk about how it's tricking him to keep him sick.

Anyone else have any luck with this topic? I'd love more suggestions.
