Hi <<<<< LymeNet Family >>>>>,

I am wondering how many here are dealing w/ this combo of issues?

Trying to sort out my diet, supplements, and so on, I am plateaued it seems, not making any real headway.

Perhaps, we can exchange ideas and tho'ts on this combo of issues here.

I'm not sure if this is rt.forum,so this can be moved if necessary.

Celiac and Type 1 diabetes are known to occur together.
http://celiacdisease.about.com/od/symptomsofceliacdisease/a/CeliacDiseaseDiabetes.htm

Celiac and Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis are also known to occur together.
http://celiacdisease.about.com/od/commoncomplicationsofcd/a/Celiac-Disease-Thyroid-Diseases-Often-Found-Together.htm

See another recent topic here at LymeNet about gluten intolerance in relation to Lyme:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/122855

Silverwolf, I see from your signature line that you have white matter lesions on your brain scan. You will be interested to know that both celiac and Lyme can cause cerebral hypoperfusion, according to medical journal articles on PubMed. These lesions should be reversible with proper treatment.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9409364

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=cerebral+hypoperfusion+AND+celiac

Yeast is "opportunistic" and it will go away after other underlying problems are adequately addressed. In the meantime, antifungals are helpful for temporary relief of yeast symptoms.

IMO, the best way to start would be to tackle the gluten intolerance problem first and then observe how many of your other problems resolve.

If the diabetes doesn't go away with strict dietary control alone, then daily exercise like walking can help lower blood sugar levels to bring Type 2 diabetes under control. You can observe the effects of walking on BG levels by measuring it with a glucometer before and after walking. You might be surprised at how much difference walking can make in managing Type 2 diabetes.

If that's not enough to solve all of your problems, then I suggest that you get in touch with another patient (Bonnie C.) from one of the iodine forums because she brought her Type 2 diabetes under control by following an "iodine protocol." She worked up one drop of Lugol's solution daily, and after she got up to 50 mg. of iodine which took about 2-3 months, she was able to discontinue her Rx Metformin which she had been taking for 13 years! She also has celiac, and the iodine helped eliminate her gastroparesis which was caused by her celiac condition.

I hope these suggestions work for you, but just remember, this race is a marathon, not a sprint, so be patient with yourself.

Might consider looking into the Paleo Diet. It is gluten-free, low glycemic index, and excellent for yeast issues, Celiac, and Diabetes.

Most MD's have no clue what to recommend as dietary therapy for Diabetes or yeast.

For more info on paleo diet, see http://www.paleodiet.com/

Hi <<<<< TX Lyme Mom, and Razzle >>>>>,

Thanks for the links,Tho'ts and info.!

I have been reading thru them, and TxC' has been looking up info' to!

We actually recently heard about a wonderful paleo bread recipe. A friends daughter had a GF party recently.

They liked the bread,for certain.

Reading about the gluten problem and somany diseases that are tied in was really interesting.

I am interested in the iodine aspect as well, tho' my paternal grandmother was allergic to iodine. Hopefully I am not.

And it is needful to be reminded that this is not just a short sprint, but a marathon. I am trying not to get discouraged.

Thanks again for the info'!!!
