Insomnia was one of my biggest symptoms and I had to use sleeping pills for 4 years.
It has been about 6 months that I sleep again without any meds. When infections go dormant, symptoms disappear, so when I treated Borrelia, Babesia and Bartonella insomnia had disappeared.

Once I got better from the infections, my insomnia did get better.
Honestly, I think it's more from adrenal fatigue from constantly fighting infection than it is from infection itself. At least in my case. As I was getting better from infection, I did things to help heal my adrenal glands and the insomnia got better. It took six months to wean off sleep meds once I returned from Germany. It did not happen overnight.
I *still* care for my adrenals. My FIL died suddenly last week, my business has all of a sudden taken off, my husband's business added four states to his territory, so I've had a lot of stress lately. I have been pampering my adrenal glands to keep them strong. When my FIL died, I did have a bit of insomnia, confirming in my mind it comes from adrenals.
I've been getting enough sleep. I've been taking time to rest/relax. I've been eating pretty perfectly. I've been exercising. Etc. No alcohol. Minimal caffeine. No sugar.
There is a lot of good information out there regarding adrenal fatigue. Dr. Wilson (not a Lyme doc) has a book and a website on it.
