Wondering about this - the Doxy/Zith combo as mentioned in this article:

www.cpnhelp.org/Wheldon

Whereby taking low doses of the D/Z combo work in synergy - one increasing the effectiveness of the other?

Pardon my pea brain - but does that infer that if one takes - as an example - 100 mg Doxy/day and 250 mg Zith 3x/week - that the 100 mg Doxy then becomes as effective as taking 400 mg? per day?

That would be too good to be true. (Is it?).

So I wonder about other combinations. I see where folks take a Doxy and Ceftin combo for Lyme.

As it happens I have been on low dose Doxy for a while - then at ER was given one Rocephin infusion and sent home with Rx for Ceftin.

So I ended up taking that combo.

Why is that combo prescribed for Lyme? Is that a synergy combination? Or those two work independently of each other.

Again, as example, would 100 mg Doxy/day combined with 250 mg Ceftin/day equate to higher doses of each? I have not read if the D/C combo works that way. Apparently they are not antagonistic combined.

CAP is interesting when one cannot tolerate high doses of a single antibiotic.

I wonder about synergetic Abx combos for Lyme.

The D/Z combo appears to be effective against Cpn. Obviously the combinations depend on the pathogen.

Thoughts?

Great article.

I'm on IV Doxy, zith, bactrim, mepron, and pulse Tindamax twice a week. Add in low dose Salt/C, Cats Claw, Turmeric, Fish Oil, Milk Thistle, and Vit B6, B12 and D3.

Glad to read that my current treatment is close to his protocols

Babs is my biggest issue and I think I'm close to being done with Lyme after 13 months on IV Rocephin with the same combo above.

He is talking about using 2 intracellular abx. A macrolide and a tetracycline or Rifampin.

Ceftin is a cell wall antibiotic, it works outside of cells. This one hits spirochetes.

I am doing a double intracellular now, with Plaquenil another abx booster. This combo works well for Bartonella too. I'm not doing low doses like he's talking about in the article.

It is a really good combo, I made a lot of progress on it.
