Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with taking doxy with rifampin for bart/lyme? Iam currently on Ceftin along with other meds and it has helped my brain fog alot but I seem to be stuck in a rut.

I currently take the recommended dose of ceftin but was thinking of doubling it (because ive read of others taking double) but my LLMD wanted me to try Doxy and rifampin.

Have any of you had luck with Doxy and rifampin (and zith and a cyst buster)?

I am scared that the doxy wont reach the BBB?

THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE

I did doxy and rifampin for several months over last summer. I handled it well, but I really didn't get any improvement or severe herxing (after the 1st week). It kind of just kept me at a stagnant level.

That being said, I was doing a lot better than I am now when I was on those two but I was also on cortef and florinef and my liver enzymes were up (which always makes me feel better for some reason).

Ceftin was much stronger herx-wise for me. I went off after a few months because I felt like it was making my depression worse, but I'm not sure it was Ceftin because it persisted after I went off it.

I also took Zith, Rifampin and Doxy for a three month period. Start with the Zith and ramp up Rif 1/2 dose the first week, then go to full dose if you react well.

Add the Doxy a few week later. This is a pretty potent combo and I did feel like it was hitting something, but had no serious herx

Get a CMP done once a month to check liver enzymes closely. This combo was the only time my liver enzymes got elevated. I had to take a short ABX break before starting IV Rocephin and zith, then after a month, added Rifampin back in the mix.

All has been fine since.

good luck

I loved this combo. I improved a lot on doxy and rifampin. My lyme specialist added zyth for 4 weeks after my first two months on just the doxy rifampin.

I wouldn't worry about hitting the BBB. I've had lots of different abx, some did, some didn't. In fact, I'm not on a BBB right now, and I'm on doxy. Your doc can add one the next go round if you want.
