I have taken Zith in the past and noted the ear ringing. About a year ago I took a course for an URI and it was really bad. I don't remember the dose.

Months later I started the Wheldon protocol combing Doxy with Zith. The Zith taken three days a week. Did OK but IIRC I could tell when the Zith "hit" with some ear ringing.

Stopped it for a few months.

I confess to buying some Azith. online w/o an Rx to have on hand in case of an emergency;
Zathrin as Azith. dihydrate. Made in India.

I did not think I would ever take it. Well I did - last week. Three days in a row and I did not get ear ringing. So the Zathrin did not pass my test - ie no ringing - not real Azith.

I got an Rx this week for Azithromycin as monohydrate. No ear ringing the first night.
Some the second night. Not much the third.

So I have to wonder - why can I sometimes take Azith and not have the terrble ear ringing?

Thoughts? I think the doses the same - but different "brands". ?

Perhaps it varies according to how much your body is overloaded.. or not overloaded. For example, you may be able to handle it better if you are detoxing or eating a healthy diet than if you were not doing so.

Thanks. I found the old Rx. I took 500 mg for seven days for the URI last year. That dose I really felt with my ears.

Subsequent doses have been half that.

So I don't know about the Zathrin. Maybe it is the real thing.

Dr Wheldon writes about the synergistic effect between Zith and Doxy. That the Z/D combo - the one drug increases the other's effect four-fold.

Interesting - but don't quite understand.

FWIW I am also taking 100 mg/day Doxy for dry eyes.

Be very careful with the zithromax. There are also synergistic ototoxic effects while you are taking this if you are exposed to loud sounds. I lost my hearing permanently in my already vulnerable ear, when I forgot to use ear plugs at my daughter's wedding reception. For some reason, your ears are much more vulnerable while on ABX, especially ototoxic ones like zithromax.

I did learn since then, that by upping your dose of magnesium, you are adding some protection to your ears. I would think this also applies to preventing tinnitus.
