I was prescribed neurontin 300 mgs at night to help with sleep and neuropathy pain. I also have joint issues that started in December.
I have tried to stop taking neurontin and end up with increased insomnia, neuropathy, pain, and twitching.
Does anyone have a replacement for neurontin? Also, any suggestions for joint pain. My doctor has prescribed celebrex but I can't afford it.

When I had to withdraw from Neurontin a long time ago, my Dr RX'd the liquid version and I weaned slowly off with no probs.
Similar to Celebrex, Salsalate is about $40 at Kroger pharmacy.

You should not stop cold turkey if you have been taking it for an extended period of time. That is a small dose but perhaps you should gradually decrease it.
Cymbalta could help w/ the nerve pain or Tegretol.

Neurontin is also available in 100mg dosage. That may help wean off.

Since I couldn't tolerate that med, I can't speak for it first hand, but I do know that there are MANY meds that you can't just stop cold turkey.
Many times they will have lower doses and depending on how long you were on a med will also make the change over plan smoother.
Have you talked to your doctor about wanting to give your body a rest from this med and asking him/her what your best options are for tapering off?
You are right. There is usually another drug they can use instead to get you over the hump. Hopefully your doctor will be supportive and make suggestions and have ideas.
After all, if he/she put you on it, hopefully they have experience in getting you off it when you feel like your body has had enough. Good luck.
