My local doctor (not LLMD) is trying to figure out if I need a surgeon or Interventional Radiologist to put a Cath in.
Anyone know??

I had it done by a surgeon. I am not familiar with an Interventional Radiologist, I am sure others are.

I had an interventional radiologist do mine. They do more of them then surgeons do so they really know what they are doing.
I asked the radiologist to mark where my bra strap hits so the port would not be a problem when I wore my racer back bras in the summer. They cut in more and he did a great job. You can hardly see where my port is.
I got the bard slim port.

Thx faithful, I thought so too! Did you have conscious sedation or did they put your under?

They did conscious sedation. I think I might have snoozed through some of it but it was a breeze. I was all nervous about it and it was so easy.
I was a bit woozy after and had to hang out a while until they were sure I could walk to the bathroom by myself.
My port has been in about 15 months.

A Surgeon!
When I needed to get my port placed I asked my Hematologist who he refers his cancer patients to for their placements. He gave me the name of a surgeon that his group preferred.
I've had other procedures by an interventional radiologist but for this one, I would rest easier knowing that I was in the good hands of an excellent surgeon.

I had a general surgeon and had wonderful results. It all depends on the surgeon, but you can probably ask around. I think they do it pretty frequently.

A surgeon did ours. But I live in the boonies. So an interventional radiologist was not an option.
Great idea about the bra strap Faithful! I had to retire one that constantly kept rubbing my huber needle.

I had an interventional radiologist but that was because they used a camera so they knew exactly where they were going.
In our area, the surgeons put it in then X-ray it to see if it is right. Too many talked about having to have them do it again, so that was enough to have me use the I.R.
Could be different areas do it differently from hospital to hospital, so you may need to shop around.
I wanted to be awake for mine and was actually intrigued in watching the camera. I had my port for 16 months and taking it out is even easier than putting it in.

A surgeon. I got a referral for an excellent surgeon. I just had local anesthetic. I chatted away with the surgeon during it, believe it or not!
