- Not sure about sulfites in it . . . of course, that can be an important issue for some.
Another reason (or maybe it's connected):
you do NOT want epinephrine because is can zoom you to the moon - it's very irritating and excitatory to the adrenal system and to the nervous system.
This is why anytime any numbing agent is used at the dentist, it's best to have written on the inside of our chart: NO EPI.
Other numbing agents can also contain epinephrine so it's important to make arrangements in advance to be sure there is a form available without.
I know firsthand the importance of this and am glad that my dentist was the one who finally pointed this out to me after feeling just awful and closer to seizures from the anesthetic shot before the change.
Before, with the typical shot, I would feel ill for days afterward before the change. Later, for just a day or two (from the exertion).
Everyone with lyme should keep this in mind as it can prevent anywhere from some icky irritation to a lot of misery by avoiding epinephrine. -

Yes - epinephrine is usually always preserved with sulfites.
Also, anesthetics in multi-dose vials may also be preserved with sulfites.

Thanks Keebler and Razzle.
So sounds like Lidocaine without the Epi is safe.

Updated first post.
? about Heparin.
Also the nurse for the allergist called back and said they make a Lidocaine preservative free.
Now I just have to make sure the Picc line placement facility has the correct one.

And heparin is sulfate, not sulfite... I'm severely sulfite sensitive, but have no trouble with heparin flushes for a PICC.
