So I saw my doctor this morning and my blood pressure was 84/56. The nurse and the assisting dr. seemed very concerned, but my dr. just told me to drink more water and add more salt to my diet. My bp has always been low, but not this low. I feel dizzy and foggy. Anyone else have this problem and if so what helped?
Thank you.

Mine was always about 90/55 when I was sick. I must say, I felt better when it got up into the normal range. No one was ever concerned about it at all. In fact, sometimes a nurse would comment how good it was that it was low.

It wasn't good though. I didn't feel good.

I don't remember specifically what helped, but I do generously use salt .... good himalayan sea salt.

This happened to me last week. I drink a lot of water but just started getting out again walking and riding my bike.

The day of my last appointment was feeling dizzy all day. Doctor said my BP was 85/? (Don't remember diastolic, I was a little woozy).

She was concerned, told me to start drinking more water. I got home and poured it on. I was still dizzy the next day and continued drinking more water. By day three I was fine.

**On a good note, I was spending time on the bike because my son just learned to ride (finally!). Now that's all he wants to do. I'm still struggling with stamina/fatigue, but seeing him finally riding keeps me from lying down.

Mine has been lower than that. Yes, drink water and add salt.

Mine is 100/60 on a good day.

Licorice helps get bp up.

And yes, sea salt & water.

Q: "Anyone else have this problem?"

EVERYONE else here (at some time or other) . . . just about EVERYONE with lyme. Mine used to be 80/50 at times.

But that can be just at times, POTS and NMH are most likely. It's low but not low all the time. What that is detailed in Cardiac Thread to follow.

Adrenal support should help. Other replies above are good and addressed here as well:

You mention being dizzy. Dizziness and vertigo can CAUSE blood pressure to drop like a rock -- or the reverse. When blood pressure drops, vertigo & dizziness can result.

Inner ear issues are very common with lyme and can involve vertigo and dizziness.

GINGER CAPSULES & MAGNESIUM are too major helpers.

But vertigo & dizziness can also be from the blood volume to the brain (also discussed in the Cardiac Thread - see HYPOPERFUSION). Hypoperfusion is often part of POTS and NHM, the low blood pressure thing. Again, ADRENAL SUPPORT is a good place to begin.

Of course, tell your LLMD. You say your doctor this morning was "very concerned" - if that means he was puzzled, likely this was not your LLMD as every LLMD knows this is very common with lyme.

However, if "very concerned" means that they were firm that you must take some action, that's so true.

The ADRENAL book by Wilson is the place to start, after getting some good quality SEA SALT today. And sipping on that periodically throughout the day, especially first thing in the morning.

Keebler, my lyme doc wasn't concerned. It was the doctor shadowing him and the nurse who saw me before who were concerned.
Licorice...someone else told me that. But, I'm not supposed to be eating sugar so where can I get licorice with little or no sugar Manname? Thanks.

We got some licorice tablets from Vitacost.

Meltzer's is the brand name... called DGL Licorice Puremints. It has some other herbs along with it.

1 gram of sugar per serving.

I use himalayan salt freely and my blood pressure did not go up at all until I moved to a higher altitude.

Normally it is 85/65. It has gone up a little but I prefer using the salt and licorice tea.

The doctors are not concerned but an ekg showed bradycardia. Typical of Lyme.

Yogi makes a good licorice root tea. Most "licorice" has no licorice in it!

You could ask you LLMD to rx Florinef to raise your BP. I couldn't do without it. I enables your body to hold onto salt, and therefore water, so increases your blood volume.

If you also have fast heartbeat from standing, then you may also need a tiny dose of a beta blocker with it.
